Pen Id And -- How To Find Cartridges And Converters For These Pens?

Lamyrada

Recommended Posts

One says Pierre Cardin the other says nothing but is very cute. I hope someone can direct me tp cartridges or converter. Do all types of pens accept a Lamy converter ?

First one says Pierre Cardin but have not found any docuemntation about it. Only a photo with no description in the intenet. Also a gift from persons who knew I love pens, any type.

Second t image is of a fountain pen with no ID in any place. Iguess those were made with design in mind, maybe not highly engineered. Anyway I like it and was agift which I appreciate.

Both says Iridium point.

Thank you for any help.

First off, Welcome to the Fountain Pen Network!

The "Pierre Cardin" pen (if it is in-fact real) will likely take standard "International" cartridges. These are the most common form of ink cartridges available and are compatible with many pen brands. Standard Intl. Cart.'s come in two sizes, short and standard (or long). Some standard carts are too long for some pens. If in doubt start with a short cart and then try putting a spare second short in the barrel back to back. If the barrel screws closed securely with the two short carts in it, then it will also take a single longer standard cart - and will probably also accept a standard converter.

Just off the top of my head these brands use standard International cartridges:

Monteverde
Mont Blanc
Private Reserve
Peliken
Kaweco
Schmidt

Senator

These carts are proprietary and probably will not fit your "Pierre Cardin" pen:

Pilot
Platinum
Parker
Lamy
Sheaffer

Waterman

So foe example Lamy carts and converters are proprietary and fit only Lamy pens.

As for the strange second pen, I can only guess someone made this "Frankenpen" out of some odd spare parts. Just try a Std. Intl Cart. in that pen first and see what happens. Odds are it will fit.

Here's an example of an International Converter (I'm not affiliated with the seller):

Good Luck, David in Jakarta

P.S. When the nib just says "Iridium Point" or more commonly "Iridium Point Germany", we call that an "IPG" nib. An IPG nib is a fairly good indicator your "Pierre Cardin" pen is probably a Chinese knock-off. Don't worry, Chinese knock-off pens most often take standard International carts too.

Great information for a newbie. I was hoping someone would enlighten my obscure ways. Thanks! The Frankenpen as you say is the one I really like the most no matter the "Franken" prefix . I i saw that the area for a cartridge on the Franken is very short, so standard long is out of the question. The " Pierre Cardin" has more room to fit anything in there so should use a longer converter. Thanks for your help. For drawing and sketching even a disposable works well.

@Lamyrada,

It was my pleasure. I hope you find a cartridge and converter that works with your "unidentified" pen. If there isn't enough room for a standard sized (long) converter, Monteverde makes a small sized (mini) International converter that may fit. Here's a link where you can get one:

By the way, I'm going to take a chance that by your user name and your question regarding Lamy converters that you are a Lamy user. If so, you may want to take a look at the recent thread linked below about Chinese-made counterfeit Lamy Safaris showing up for sale online (e.g., ebaY). The copies may fool you if you haven't seen the pictures of the fakes side-by-side with the real thing. Here's the link to the fake Lamy discussion:

Enjoy... David

Great info again, needless to say i am learning a lot; and you are right. I am a Lamy user, just recently jumped in the bandwagon and went for a starter pen recently. I know that as I begin to understand the differences among pens and inks will be able to define what characteristics please me more in a fountain pen and will acquire at least two good fountain pens. One medium with blue ink and one fine with black ink for writing. I am no fan of changing nibs. That is the plan. Thank you again !

montblanc has propriety converters which are threaded so look for Scmidt or Pelikan converters (Pelikan could be better because you can easily disassemble the converter for ease of cleaning and maintenance you can easily order converters from gouletpens seeing you in the US monteverde will probably help

The difficult object is probably by Parafernalia; this thread has something similar, and I've encountered something quite the same shape as yours which had the same maker's mark as seen in that thread. The one I looked at had it's working end made by Reform (the point was impressed under the section) and it took international shorts, but it seems some of their output required Sailor cartridges (more detail in the link).

Ravensmarch Pens & Books
It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

I believe the unmarked pen is a Yafa Barrage (by Stilisa) and will take a short international cartridge.

Thanks!

It looks exactly like mine, in a different color. Tell me, is it heavy? Mine is. Has a perfect solid weight. I read a review of a Yafa here that states how light and cheap it feels. Maybe not this model which has the feel of a.. Ehhh… Good FP. Not that I remember if it was. I just want totest it again to decide whether to use it or retire to the category of "show but don't use"… I have already ordered international standard size cartridges. They should work on both the pens, which had their empty cartridges still in and were the same length. I cleaned them yesterday with water and a few drops of cleaning liquid. Don't know what else to do.

By the away, IPhone users. Photo was taken with Magnifying Glass with Light App. I am using on daily basis now for things like this. Very helpful to have around!

How did you acquire your Yafa? Mine was a gift, but I read they were/are sold through Home Depo,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
