Hey, im from Singapore.

Im selling most colours of lamy safari.

I only sell authentic pens.

I didn't mean to discredit you, but at that time, I noticed a lot of people selling fakes from these countries. I believe mine came from Malaysia. It came in the same package of this "founfain pen", but it was the white version: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-in-Box-Genuine-Lamy-Fountain-Pen-SAFARI-line-in-SKY-BLUE-with-Nib-SIZE-F-/321644956408?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae3888af8

This one claims to ship from the US. These fakes are atrocities.

For Singapore, a very small strict country.

We are very strict in this issue. You seldom see on the street on fake items especially shopping mall.

As for Malaysia it is huge country , especially JB (Malaysia) that near Singapore the shopping mall openly selling fakes.

And it is alot of fakes especially watches.

Infact i have been monitoring fakes limited edition lamy safari in ebay.

1 Singaporean visited me showing me fake lamy safari he purchase from there.

We have put side by side to compare real vs fake.

I even notice even Lamy z24 convertor got fake.

The Engraving word "LAMY" is not properly etched on the convertor.

Well I bought Lamy Safari on ebay, I think the seller is genuine UK seller, but the pen had a sharp plastic edge which I needed to smoothen using micro mash. Broad nib was very smooth and juicy, after I aligned the tines. Relatively cheap pen, but IMO still overpriced considering the poor quality control. My cheap Chinese Safari imitation has better quality finish.

I just got a fake Charcoal Safari EF from eBay. I won't mention the seller since he seemed genuinely interest in finding out if his supplier was giving him fakes and he issued me a full refund very promptly.

The differences are subtle on their own, but if you have another Safari to compare it to (thankfully I do), it's a lot more obvious. For me the biggest, most obvious, "tells" for the counterfeit were:

1. Terrible nib quality (scratchy and more broad than my F safari)

2. Nib color was not "black chromium plated" correctly and didn't match my other one

3. Ink cartridge included was black instead of the normal blue and didn't come inside the pen, just floating in the box

4. The "GERMANY" Stamp on the bottom of the barrel is not deep/clean

I have these two Lamys. Both have black cross tops. Both,I think , are different models. The silver blue one's section is transperent while the dark blue one's section is the same as barrel/body color. What different models these are and is the black cross top ok with the pens?

I have purchased the pens from local Lamy Dealers and not from any online retailers.

Your silver pen is a Lamy Al-Star and your blue pen is a Lamy Safari. The top cross is standard.

For these types of issues I quit doing business through Ebay and PayPal long ago. Ethics are a factor, misrepresentation another ("I don't know much about "________"), etc. But through Ebay I have found some reputable dealers with whom I prefer to do business. If none of them have what I want, I'll wait.

There are many good dealers who operate both with online storefronts and on ebay. Many are active on the forum. Most have large numbers of satisfied reviews.

I've been keeping my eye out on the new limited edition Lamy x LINE friends brown fountain pen on ebay. A couple weeks ago, I'd only see one or two listings with all the auctions going for almost $200. Now there are a bunch of buy it now listings for under $100. The prices seem too good to be true. Are they making fakes of the Lamy x LINE fountain pens now? I'd love to get one for under $100, but not sure if they are fake. Thanks!

Im not saying there are no fakes of these, I don't know. However, my understanding is that there was a recent release of additional pens in this line. They sure are cute.

When I looked several hours ago I saw pens coming from South Korea. As it was a very recent release and all of the pens are shipping from the original country where they were issued, you're likely pretty safe. As always, check feedback, examine photos, etc.

Hi I came across this ad for Lamy Safari fountain pens and could not believe the price. Coming from China I would think they were fakes yet their claims make out that these pens are from Germany.

Can anyone offer advice.

I have one of those aquamarine "Safari". An obvious sign of fakery is that the ink window and section do not line up, viz. photo in one of the early posts. That is, the ink window is partially blocked by the section when screwed tight.

Another sign is that the plastic is not the same: it is much more brittle, and cracks easily.

The most obvious sign of a Lamy Safari being a fake is when it's being sold from the Far East at a ridiculously low price, as in $10 for a turquoise one.

Mine came from an eBay seller in China. The photos showed the pen, but nowhere in the copy did it say "Lamy" or "Safari". I believe it was selling as an " LA Style" fountain pen. I knew it was fake, but for $6 I was curious to see how good a fake it was. It could easily fool a layperson, or non pen-nerd like us.

Oh, and the nib wasn't bad at all: I've had much, much worse writing experiences.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
