De Atramentis Cucumber Alternatives?

Recommended Posts

I have spent the last few weeks trying to find the perfect set of greens for drawing and coloring (the amount of variation in natural color is endless 0_0 Four is barely enough, lol) I finaly chose my two lighter-end greens-- Diamine Jade Green and Light Green-- but I'm having trouble on the mid-level and the darkest. I finally settled, after testing about 15 greens, on De Atramentis Cucumber...buttttt... it's scented and comes in a tiny bottle I will constantly be re-ordering  The mid-level green, whatever I choose, will get the most use, so a larger bottle would be preferable, and a non-scented ink, even more so ;)

Anyone have some suggestions? Shading is nice, but not necessarily necessary; I just want something close shade-wise that will go well with my other two greens (and if you want to suggest a darker green for my fourth, go right ahead ;) I haven't been very successful there yet...)

Why not send Dr. Jansen a note and ask for a large bottle (or several small bottles) of Cucumber without the scent?

I didn't know I could do that... That's a really great idea :)

DA Moss Green (spring moss not summer).....in a narrow nib very light, wider nib darker...shades.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

If you've ever seen a bottle (I can't find it in the website) then look at the right side of the label, above the actual name of that bottle of ink. There, for scented/composer/places etc inks, there is usually the name of the unscented/"normal" etc ink. E.g. Wiesbadener Quellentinte says Dunkelblau (Dark Blue), Jasmin (Jasmine) says Rotorange (Red Orange), Brandenburger tor says Aubergine.

Those are the colours which de atramentis also offers....

Hey, me neither. Didn't know you could special order D'A inks. I love the color of Patchouli, but the scent is well.... kinda yucky. Doesn't smell like patchouli at *all* -- more like someone's musty basement IMO . I had written to them on the link on the De Atramentis website as to whether there was a non-scented version of that color but never got an answer.

I've noticed that a lot of the really nice looking D'A greens seem to be scented. Which is kinda annoying. Some of their scented inks are great (Red Roses is just lovely -- wonderful color and smells like heirloom roses, i.e., what roses are *supposed* to smell like). Lavender was "meh" in both scent and color; Patchouli, well -- see the previous paragraph.... Not sure whether I'd like Jasmine or not -- and Lily of the Valley is a scent that kinda grosses me out (love the flowers -- hate the odor). And I could see where Cucumber would be a little... *odd*.

My De A Jasmine doesn't smell like jasmine at all! But Blackberry and Strawberry sure do!! I have a very good sence of smell (sorry, but I also collect scents like essential oils, chemicals and perfumes) and the very best, authenitic scented De A inks include Hyacinth and Ylang Ylang. Buy 'em today!

Sadly I've only tried samples so far... but maybe they have the info somewhere (I'm guessing they have a website, although I haven't checked yet)...

Honestly I just avoid scented things, they tend to trigger migraines for me ^.^'' Thankfully my experiments with the sample did not, but I still would want to risk it with a whole bottle... Sometimes I wish I could do scented things, though. That Rose ink sounds wonderful <3

I just compared them with the tool on Goulet's site. I think Moss Green might be the unscented version of Cucumber! The swabs are absolutely identical on my screen.
