Organics Studio - Join Or Die

Time to give a bit of love to a small ink manufacturer, Organics Studio. From what I can tell, it’s a bit of a one man band, and I do so love supporting smaller businesses when I can. I tried another OS ink as well, but that was when my computer was broken and I didn’t get a scan before doing a water test and somehow I lost the picture I took of the original page, so I will have to just redo that one later. I think I still have enough left in my sample to fill a pen…

Anyway, Join or Die is part of the “Sepia” line of inks, and I suppose I would be willing to call it a greenish sort of sepia. It reminds me of olive drab, which could be good or bad depending on how you feel about that color.

I read somewhere that it only has like five ingredients, though I have no idea where I would have read that. You can find a little introduction from the maker here, as well as a bigger writing sample. That scan looks more yellow than mine did, but it could just be some variation between batches or image processing.

This ink had great shading and flow, as well as a decent degree of water resistance. I had absolutely no trouble getting it cleaned out of my pen either.

I really wish I could like the color of this ink! It’s so nice otherwise, but the color started to wear on me after about a day and I just couldn’t keep it in my pen. If you do not have my strange aversion to olive shades of ink, I highly recommend it. In the States it’s not too pricy (~$14/55 mL) and you get to support someone starting out in the pen world from the very bottom. What’s more fun than that?

This ink was purchased with my own money and I am in no way being compensated for this review. All opinions expressed above are my own and you can feel free to disagree with them if you like.

I'm going to try a bottle. I like olive green and don't have any right now. The price is pretty good. Thanks for the tip.

With a name like "Join or Die!", I'll be surprised if the ink doesn't 'join' itself to the page.

In a world where there are no eyes the sun would not be light, and in a world where there were no soft skins rocks would not be hard, nor in a world where there were no muscles would they be heavy. Existence is relationship and you're smack in the middle of it.

Hmmm... Is this an iron gall?

As far as I can tell, no. I am basing that on the fact that there was no sedimentation or classic IG smell...

I wasn't sure how I'd like this color, but I quickly used the sample I ordered and really came to like it. Performance is very good as well. Goulet was out when I placed my last order, but a bottle will be in my next order for sure.

So many inks, so little time...

I like it too... It's my "new" favorite green ink... Thanks for the review... My ink color on the page looks like your scan...

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
