Hi Line,

there is the Sailor King Eagle nib.

Unfortunately I used a completely inadequate paper coated inkjet paper and drawed on the wrong uncoated side, so it feathered like crazy. :(

Be patient, this is my second drawing since 20 years ;)

Hello everyone!!

I've spent the last couple of days reading this thread and admiring your beautiful pens and handwriting. I love fountain pens very much and find them also very addictive :)

I don't really write with my pens, but they are my favourite drawing tools, so I thought I'd sharesome drawings with you if you don't mind. I know this thread is not for pen art, but gosh darn it I love you guys!

here are some sketches with my vintage Sheaffer

Hello again and thanks for the tips!

I clean the vintage Sheaffer with distilled water every time when I change the ink and do my best to take good care of it. I've used many many inks with it and the best so far are MB Toffee Brown, Pelikan Black, J.Herbin Perle Noire and Caran D'ache Sunset.

I've had some problems with some inks that were...how should I put it...too wet? When I used J.Herbin Poussiere de Lune and MB Midnight Blue the flow was better...alsmost too good. As I was drawing the feed was moving to the left and to the right to the point that I could see it on the side of the nib...

I have no idea if this is normal...I just drew some lines in the opposite direction so that it goes back under the nib again... or pushed it back in with my finger.

Anyway, the Sheaffer is kept busy and I've learnt to live with the laddering...I sometimes even use it on purpose to make patterns. I'm sure that if I'll go to a pen show one day I'll take my dear pen with me and get it adjusted :)

Pterodactylus I looove your drawings and this colour is amazing!!

Uncle Red, thank you so much for your advice! I'm still not sure about the Binder nib...i've found some reviews today and it seems they create very similar lines to my Sheaffer. I'll contact stevlight and ask about the children's books!

Here are some more Sheaffer sketches. The ink is Skrip Green

Hello again!

I was wondering if anyone of you has a Parker Duofold (or maybe another pen) with an Oblique Fine nib? I was looking everywhere for some writing/drawing OF samples ....in vain :(

I would like to know if an oblique nib would help me create some more line variation while drawing or would it skip all the time while not holding to a certain angle?

I always tend to turn the nib towards me when I write and draw... actually when I draw I twist the pen all the time in all directions and use all the sides of the nib. I did not realise that until I watched a video of my hands while I draw...

And if I turn an oblique upside down, does it produce a thinner line like the rounded nibs?

I have some dip pens with reverse oblique nibs. They are totally flat, sharp as hell and a bit too broad for detailed drawing so they don't really help me imagine how an OF would work.

The thing is I finally ordered my new Duofold. It comes with an F nib...but I could exchange the nib within 4 weeks. I'm really interested in the OF but I'm not sure if I can test it anywhere in Berlin... In all the stores I've been to I've been told I will probably have to send my pen to Parker (in Hamburg I think) if I'm not happy with the F nib.

Sorry for writing a novel :( , here are some Sheaffer sketches, both made using MB Toffee Brown, without and with a light wash of water.

Hi Line,

may I introduce a new friend of mine.

His name is Pelikan and I fear it seems he will be not a friend of Seagull and Eagle.

And there is something else..... how can I say that politely .....

Hmmm....

He said to me I should tell you, ...... if you don´t agree with him that Pelikans are great bird pens you have to return your Pelikan 400 OBB brown tortoise immediately.

I will try to post more later with my newly re-discovered Pelikan 120. It's not so much the pen that's been re-discovered but the nibs that were cast aside for italics many, many years ago. I had no idea the medium nib semi-flexed.

It's impossible to get true colors when photographing or editing.

Eagle is not scared, he wants to find Seagull to have a "common" dinner with her. ;)

But finding her seems not to be that easy for him, remember he is a King of skies but no navigator and till now he never left Austria .....

Seagull has started thinking now. What has she done? Is there a war going on here? She has her children building brick walls around the nest.

This is not made by fountain pen, but the S-pen on my Samsung galaxy note. I couldn't draw Seagull with a Eagle pen;wouldn't have been nice!

Ptero: I found the Eagle pen on Ebay. It came all the way from Australia.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
