Hello everyone!

 

I have always seen/heard of Parker Sonnets with 18K nibs, and these usually also have some flex.

 

However, I was wondering whether any Sonnet, be it a Sterling Silver or otherwise, could have a 14K nib...

 

Any clarity on the issue would be genuinely appreciated!

All are 18k nibs. There is a tad spring to them but it is far from flex. But it's a nice nib that I like.

The Sonnets are made in France, and the French require 18K, by law is my understanding. They are 18K or steel. You could read about the fakes.

I guessed so!

I got a glimpse of a Sonnet with a "14K" nib yeserday and it struck me as a fake immediately...now I am sure it was.

Absolutely not. There is a genuine Sonnet (black body/silver cap - similar cap to the Silver Loustre model) from 2008 with a 14K white gold nib. The nib is guaranteed gold. It was a short lived run. Not sure more about the history.

I have plenty of French made 14k Parker 75 nibs and have seen a 14k French made duofold nib, so I see no problem with the concept of a 14k sonnet nib. All the fake sonnets I have seen are marked 18k and are incredibly magnetic for 18k gold.

There was indeed such a model and I had one, however it was never supposed to be released according to vendor I purchased it from.

I chased them up about it a few years back, and the story goes they bought some bits and pieces from Parker in France, and included were these 14K nibs, which were being prototyped by Parker, but they decided not to release them. They were not supposed to leave the factory, but somehow about 50 were sent out.
