New Pens On Asapens

Scribblesoften

Recommended Posts

That is a site that Anup (a_m) identified. ASAPens periodically puts up new photos of pens they have available. Some are not on the sales site.

Many pens they dont sell on site. Forsuch pens you have to contact ASA directly.

They arrange for such FPs through their local suppliers.

That's how i got Pilot MR

And some ball point pens

There is a year old conversation on my site that is pretty illustrative

I received an olive Airmail/Wality 52MC from ASAPens today. It is a good sized plastic piston fill pen. I suspect that the MC stands for Metal Cap as the pen has a solid metal overlay on a plastic cap. The pen is fitted with a Wality fine nib. There was a thread where the quality of the single toned Wality fine nibs was negatively compared to the two toned Wality medium nibs but this nib is excellent. It writes a nice smooth fine line. Under magnification, the tipping looks evenly and properly applied. This was one of the pens not listed on the website. I contacted ASAPens through the site and purchased it. I have only had it one day but I am very pleased with it. For those who might be put off by that kind of thing, the pen does have a slight odor similar to the Noodler's Ahab. Another good experience dealing with ASAPens.

Wality nibs are underrated. When they perform they perform very well. Because of that odor thing i no longer use plastic pens but prefer ebonite or metal or better quality acrylic FPs

I share your preferences but it is difficult to find piston fill pens from India made from other materials. I also received my first Indian C/C pen. It is very nice but I hope to someday purchase an Indian ebonite piston filler.

I have now had my two Asapens Athletes for slightly more than one week, and it seems they've been mine forever. They really are as beautiful as the photography suggests, and their proportions make for very comfortable writing unposted. The nibs were a bit finer than I expected but very smooth. I have inked both of them immediately and used them on a daily basis. They remind me of the Deccan Advocate junior in balance and heft. Very comfortable writers. One has a mixture of all the inks from the Susemai testing project, the other has Akkerman Shocking Blue. I also got a little bonus Hero pen - the perfect Fountainpenday gift for one of my students...

I have the Deccan Advocate Jr & I can well say that Athlete is much better in its construction.

I would be even happier if ASA comes out with a transparent barrel version of Athlete. (Here i must add that i have a feeling as if ASA gives more consideration to suggestions from customers from outside India than from within India) - so maybe some of you should start suggesting him for such a version.

Today i found that the Athlete would write to nearly last drop of ink without any burp in between. When i was writing today i found the lines were a bit more wetter than usual. Then i saw the feed and it seemed to be on the wetter side. Fearing another ED disaster i quickly opened the section and to my surprise & relief the barrel was completely empty.

ASA Pens put up some photos of Airmail/Wality 52MC piston fillers on their stream.

http://asapens.in/eshop/asa-first[/

On the photo thread ASA put up some pictures of an Athlete with a converter. The nib looks kind of crazy with a bunch of breather holes. I wonder if this is a prototype or whether it will be a regular offering.

Its named Spear. That nib is JoWo & comes only in medium. I am told its there with ASA more than a week back. Don't know why it has not yet been listed. It will be regular offering.

If It is in a Jowo carrier, perhaps it can be unscrewed and a fine or extra fine Inserted in its place. It was nice to see a selection of piston fillers as well. I have one of the metal clad Oliver pens. I friction fit a Jowo fine into it and it is a nice pen with excellent ink capacity.

You can just pull out the nib from housing & replace the nib. The Jowo threaded nibs fully get disassembled to housing, nib & feed. However I have found that there is a certain incline in the Jowo feeds that make it work only with Jowo nibs and not with other nibs - as any other nib inserted leaves a gap with feed

It looks like an eyedropper filler with a breather tube. What would be the purpose of the tube?

I am not sure about the breather tube, nor I am sure about the section and cap. It may be possible that such kind of ebonite pen with transparent barrel may be in offing. I have only been told that its a prototype & how I found it. I said it would be great to have such kind of pen.

Today I ordered my Revolution with Fine JoWo nib. With Athlete I faced one problem. The pen was too large to put in shirt pocket. So I went with Revolution. Asked them to engrave name of my son on the cap. My experience with medium and broad german nibs had been less than satisfactory. So I chose fine nib.

Can't wait. :-)

What made you think Revolution is small size? The famous Pelikan Souveran 1000 which is considered a large pen - the Athlete, Revolution are all of that size. Brahmaputra as the name suggests is like that huge river :-)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
