few days ago i got 3 nice pens a Sheaffer Imperial and 2 beautifully colored Parker 45 pens, both of them came with a Fine Nib one of them -the gold plated one- was very clean so i didnt do anything to it and the other one needed some service so i did it and im currently using it, such a nice pen very smooth, fantastic grip and decent ink flow even when im using cheap paper it writes perfectly without any problems.
here is some pictures for both of them :http://imageshack.com/a/img534/3292/qyd7.jpghttp://imageshack.com/a/img822/6840/dsi0.jpghttp://imageshack.com/a/img850/2144/5qol.jpg

If the nibs in the pens Came with those pens then your gold colored nib Isn't likely plated, More Likely 14k gold.

The didn't put the plated nibs in until much later. The nib will be stamped if Gold but you'll need to remove it from the collar to see it.

Nice looking 45's.

I just got 2 Parker 45s because everyone said they were wonderful writers, and they are! :) You have some very good specimens there.

I was going to say the same thing. I have several pens of other brands with gold plated nibs, and the color of the gold in the 14k in my P45 Flighter is "different" than those. I suspected as much when I got it, and confirmed when I took it apart. Enjoy!!

cant wait to empty the first 45 so i can use the gold nibed 45, do you think it will write even better that the Steel nibed 45 ?

The Parker 45 is designed for reliability and easy maintenance by the user. Whatever else I am using, a Parker 45 travels

in my pocket. So it has been for forty years.

I think Sasha means mainly for uninked long term storage not when inked for daily use. Storing it uncapped stops the hood dimples from getting worse.

Probably not much difference if any in smoothness, the gold nib may be a bit springier though.

Never used a steel nibbed 45, but 45's are wonderful writers. I would have been happy had it been steel, but as a 14k? I was ecstatic.
