I think most bottles are 'meh' but that one is really beautiful.

Ink made by Sailor for a store called Kingdom Note. Which ones do you want to see a review of first?

I don't post my appreciation quite often enough! Your reviews are wonderful! :notworthy1: I am just as passionate about sailor inks...such a wonderful service you provide...besides feeding my ink compulsions.

I think the bottles look great, and I'm looking forward to seeing the inks reviewed. Any order will do...

Wow-za on the ink bottles. I'm a sucker for beautiful bottles too. Sailor ink and a great bottle. Must have!

I would like to see how they all look :)

Yes, please!

Saskia, do the caps on these tell you the names in Japanese? A la Hayabusa and Oomurasaki, as mentioned above, or the green cicada one called Higurashi? Those names would probably be easier to remember (at least for me!) than the Latin classification names.

I would pick Sasakia charonda.

My Japanese is extraordinarily limited, but here's a crosswalk of sorts:

Rosalia Batesi = Ruriboshi Kamikiri

Tanna Japonensis = Higurashi

Trypoxlus dichotomus = Kabutomushi

Sasakia charonda = Oomurasaki

Dorcus hopei binodulosus = Ookuwagata

Aix galericulata = Oshidori

Phasianus versicolo = Kiji

Nipponia nippon = Toki

Falco peregrinus = Hayabusa

Garrulus lidthi = Rurikakesu

Those with better Japanese, feel free to refine this! :)

You can go through Atsu (cool-japan) on ebay, or use a forwarding service, depending on how many you want to buy. If you are buying all ten, then I think it will be cheaper with a forwarding service. If you just want a few, it's usually better to go with Atsu.

Check out the link in my signature that mentions my ink reviews for all the information you might need. :)

I also took some pictures of the second brown that I didn't ink up. I didn't have enough empty pen slots! The word and arrow are written in another colour, NOT to duck colour.

Lots more pictures here.

Nice! I actually quite like Trypoxlus dichotomus/Kabutomushi more than I thought I would. Phasianus versicolo/Kiji kinda reminds me of Athena Aoubajou.

It's a bit more saturated than Aobajou, I think. It also has a larger colour difference in the shaded areas, and it even has a bit of sheen.

Ooooh. I think Aobajou is a really pretty color, so maybe I should go for Kiji instead.

Garrulus Lidthi. I knew what it would be before the sample sentences...

Blue with reddish/purple sheen

I want it compared to Hakodate Twilight or similarly medium-dark blues.

Phasianus Versicolor looks a lot like Iroshizuku Ku-jaku on my monitor.

The Tanna Japonensis, on the other hand, seems really interesting! Can't wait to hear your reviews on that ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
