Refurbishing An Oddly Sized Journal

Hi guys!

I was at the markets on Saturday and I bought a very lovley handmade leather journal from a very nice lady. Unfortunately, the paper in it (handmade) is completely unsuitable for fountain pens. It's like trying to write on paper towel or toilet paper or something. Anyway, I've spent the evening watching and reading bookbinding tutorials and I think I have a handle on what I want to do, which is take out the paper that's in there and put in some lovely FP friendly something or other which I have not yet decided on (and would appreciate recommendations on papers to look at).

The problem I'm having is that I'm really not a maths-y person and occasionally I will get embarrassingly confused by simple things like conversions and measurements. The journal seems to be non-standardly sized. It measures 7in x 5in on the cover and then the paper is 6 5/8ths x 4 5/8ths. or almost 19cm x almost 14cm cover and almost 18cm x 13cm paper. I have no idea what size paper I should be looking for to fold into signatures (I really don't want to fiddle around cutting paper).

If anyone could help me with this, I would be eternally grateful! Also, places to find nice paper in/around Sydney CBD?

Thank you!!

Often the page layout of your wordprocessing program, or maybe the properties page on your printer, might be helpful, and provide page size dimensions. Good luck with your project!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
