i note take and write alot everyday, i use extrafine, the EF actually has subtle arabic/hebrew bevel ( axe shaped) and the F has regular conventional ball tip if you understand what i mean

i actaully tried a BB at the boutique i found it too ghastly and thick for me for everyday note taking however for signing off documents. Its an excellent tip. so either. pick EF or fattest one u want, not in the middle

'The Yo-Yo maneuver is very difficult to explain. It was first perfected by the well-known Chinese fighter pilot Yo-Yo Noritake. He also found it difficult to explain, being quite devoid of English.

So we left it at that. He showed us the maneuver after a sort. B*****d stole my kill.'

Second that. MB's EF is different from other brands' nibs. MB's F nib is very smooth because of the ball shaped tip. The tines of the EF nib have to be perfectly aligned to avoid skipping and/or scratchiness.

I owned a 144 and a 145 before and recently purchased a 146. It is a gorgeous pen. It is comfortable both capped and uncapped, but I found it more relaxing with the cap on.

It is really up to you. Fwiw I have three montblancs although none are 146 . ef,om and b. All are as smooth as silk .Personally I find the ef the smoothest and best to take notes. I have a light hand when writing.

I went to a boutique to try out the nibs. I tried the EF, F, & M. They all write great and very smooth. On a check signature on Che,k paper, I found the EF and the F very thin on the fast curls of a signature. The medium was perfect. But on certain papers the medium was very wide. The salesperson said the F maybe was abused and should be good on a new one. Should I get the F or the M?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
