Toucan Turquoise Ink

This is the third in a series of reviews of the new Toucan Ink range produced by Tintex, Dye Manufacturers of Australia. I have no connection to the manufacturer, or to the distributor (http://www.justwrite.com.au), other than as a satisfied customer. I have been trialling these inks for roughly three months, and have become a huge fan. I wish they were waterproof - that would make them more useful to me in the workplace! - but these inks perform well in the (admittedly limited) range of pens I've used them in, and are well-behaved on good quality paper (notably Rhodia and Reflex 80gsm copier paper - a well-known brand in Australia at least!). I've also tried them on 100gsm HP copier paper, with similarly good results.

Toucan Turquoise is a really nice ink - I don't use it much personally, but my school-aged daughters both have a fountain pen permanently inked up with this colour. I don't have any other Turquoise inks, unfortunately - so the comparisons on the page are to a few of the blue inks I have in my possession.

Please forgive the abominable handwriting - I was going for speed over style, which made it even worse than usual!

thank you

first time to know this oz seller, looks like got some interesting budget pens

Yup, who says lower prices always mean poor quality - in addition to the inks, I've bought several of their lower end Chinese and Indian pens, and on the whole I've been seriously impressed. The Jinhao and Baoer pens especially, but I've grabbed 3 Hero 616s too, not one of them a dud. If you have an Australian postal address (or NZ), here's a local business that provides a warranty on most (if not all) of its pens.

Thanks for the review! I continue to hope that Just Write will one day offer shipping to the US.

I asked the distributor if he was happy for me to do these reviews before posting them, and asked specifically about international sales. He told me it's not on the cards right now, as his focus is on providing a low cost range of inks to Australian customers, who get slugged big time with import / postage costs for overseas inks (don't I know it! - a Kaweco pen that sells for US$28ish in the US will cost a cool AU$50 over here - and pens are cheaper to ship!). That said, I don't think he'd rule it out if there was sufficient interest...

Great reviews. Keep up the good work.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
