Please Help! Need Pen Authenticity Verification!

Hi there!

First post! So apologies if it's in the wrong section.

Gotta say, love the site and everyone seems really friendly, which is always good.

Anyway, about my post, I'm looking at the following Montblanc Noblesse, but am unsure as to wether the pen is genuine or not, and how much is a reasonable price to pay for one of these, as I'm relatively new to all this. The link has a good few pictures from all different angles.

If you could let me know, as it's something I'd be looking to purchase should everything be well and good.

If not, could anyone recommend a place to look for one?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hi. Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. It's a roller ball instead of a pen and so even if authentic not worth much money. There's no way to tell much from the pictures.

Thank you, but as far as the photos go, does everything look authentic? And how would you be able to tell.

Also, I've put up a best offer on the pen of $125, which is a fair amount less than asking price, so if that is approved, would that be considered reasonable?

It's nearly impossible to authenticate anything from photos unfortunately. I don't see anything I would consider a "STOP" signal.

But when it comes to pricing, that's another story. If you want a roller ball then the right question is "Is there another roller ball at that price point you want more?" If not, then that is a great price.

But the Noblesse and Slimline pens were Montblancs entry level pens of the period. They were good value student or corporate advertising level pens. That is not meant derogatorily, simply placing the lines in context. The fountain pens had gold plated steel nibs.

If the seller passes on your "best offer", don't get tempted to go any higher. Also, don't get too disappointed. Odds are you can find another Noblesse or Slimline at that price point.

The pen looks authentic, but no guarantees from me of course. However, the pen in question has some condition problems and I would say $125 is far too much to pay. Be patient and you will find Noblesse pens on eBay in nicer condition and I should think at a reasonable price. I have purchased from berlin-collectible on eBay before and while he has interesting pens for sale, I do find that he overstates condition somewhat. If he says "clear signs of use", you can assume that means "somewhat beat-up" and I think a close look at the pictures will show that.

Also, to provide a little extra information on an earlier post, the Slimline and Noblesse lines are very similar but a bit different. Noblesse came first and the rhodium or gold plated versions were equipped with gold nibs. They are among my favorite pens.

Thank you all for your very descriptive and helpful replies. Couldn't have asked for any better answers.

Ive been keeping my eye on the eBay listings of this type of pen for the past month or so, and never found one below £60 that looks in reasonable condition.

So do you guys have any suggestions on where to look for one of these at a reasonable price? As i can't seem to find anywhere else. Absolutely love this pen and hope i can get hold of one.

Thanks again.

Also, any opinions as to what this is? and how this actually functions as a ballpoint?

Thanks

It is simply a Roller Ball pen. Most companies make both Fountain Pen and Roller Ball versions of the same pen/finish.

It's a rollerball as opposed to a ballpoint. That means you have to take the cap off before you can write. Mb ballpoints are twist action pens. Rollerball refills dry up much quicker than ballpoint refills

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
