Maxpens

Recommended Posts

The new Astoria Goliath black and pearl Edition.

The pen is made from Ebonite and Cellulose Acetat. This black and pearl pattern was used for old Astoria pens of the 20´s, mostly push button filler.
This pen is also available, on request, as a push button filler.

In this moment I work with the size more or less around a #6 ( ca. 146 MB size ), but it is possible to order the pen with a size called "380", this is more or less the size for the 149 MB nib. It is the Peter Bock AG nib, but grind in my workshop, with Bock engraving, in addition with an "A" for Astoria.

kind regards

  • 3 weeks later...

Now we have also the matching BP pen with black and pearl CA material, based on the Goliath BP. Thw BP has a twist mechanism, the refill is a standard refill and all over the world available.

All these PB pens are availble within some days at the Astoria shop on penboard. LINK

The dimension is more or less like the Hemingway BP pen of the 90´s. We have a cap diameter of 14 mm and a lenght of 138 mm, witout the refill tip.

You can choose between 3 different styles.

# 1 is with cap and barrel in black and pearl CA

# 2 is with barrel in black and pearl CA, blck cap

# 3 is with cap in black and pearl CA, blck barrel

I've repeatedly tried to log in to your website, astoria-hamburg.com, but always get a message that server is not responding. I'd love to order one of these beautiful pens with the larger #8 nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
