2014 New Product Roundup

"Broad italic" is purely from the copy and ordering options on the La Couronne du Comte website; it seems a reasonable assumption that it refers to the "I" marked nib

Works for me. :D

Okay then, I can provide some limited info about the "I" nib. The one I have is non-plated stainless steel, and so far I've only used it for one fill (of Pelikan 4001 Turquoise) in my m200 2012 SE demonstrator.

With that ink I got a stroke width range of 0.9 - 1.01mm, depending on paper (min = 0.9mm on Rhodia, max = 1.01mm on OfficeMax 24lb laser paper).

And here's a small writing sample. Please pardon the scan quality (I've only just determined that my 20-year-old HP ScanJet IIcx scanner really does need to be replaced) as well as the misspelling in the German pangram. Line spacing is 7mm on the original.

There's a nib marked "IB" that's available for the M800, but I don't have one and so I'm not able to compare it to my "I".

I have the IB in the Pel M800 (tortoise). Couldn't tell you the stroke width but the pen is a joy to write with even though the M800 is just a bit big for me.

Oh, that's great, Constance - thank you. I'd found a fair bit on the M800's IB (Pauses to indulge in some tortoise envy... Very nice, Doc) but measurements seemed to vary so much, plus throw in the variation twixt steel and gold nibs, and well, not helpful. Around 1mm would suit me very nicely indeed, so fingers crossed.

And is not Pelikan Turquoise something of a stunner? If it had a larger price tag and a fancier bottle I'm sure it'd get a lot more notice.

Cheers, Al

So is the M600 in jade green really happening this year? Does anyone know when the release date is? It would be nice to know

in advance to be able to save up or plan around it...

Yes therecorder, that's the one I've got; although mine's not gold-plated, it's also marked simply "I". You know, I've been wondering who or what "wrweakley" (the eBay seller of that listing) is -- is "wrweakley" an outlet for a brick-and-mortar, or ...?

Al, for some reason I hadn't seen your reply --

Yes, that 4001 Turquoise ink is incredible in my Pelikan. Right now my M200 Demo 2012 SE, mounted with an (unplated stainless steel) "F" nib, is filled with it and the color and shading is amazing. This pen-nib-ink combo is as smooth as butter ... or Torvill and Dean's '84 Bolero ;) ... and it's so good it even causes my normal handwriting to look much more legible.

Unfortunately 4001 Turquoise didn't work at all in my Lamy Vista -- I kept having to flood the feed and since I'm not going for a dark-to-light transition effect on a half-page of writing I ended up emptying the Lamy without even trying to test stroke width, etc.

4001 Turquoise has great color and some good shading coming from my rotring ArtPen "F" but the "ride" isn't quite as nice as the M200's -- it's maybe a touch drier and of course the ArtPen nib is a nail and can't compare with the M2xx nibs.

Not sure, but included in the description at the bottom of the following page, he or she states, "I am an authorized Pelikan Dealer and the main photo shown is from the International Distributor --so your pen will be new not used or even displayed."

Yes, that's the listing I've been sighing over. It's waaaay out of my budget to just haul off and purchase, but I've been putting a bit aside each month for a Lapis LE specifically and someday ... it will be good. :happyberet:

From what I can tell from rumours here and round the web, it seems that Pelikan's 2014 lineup is going to comprise:

1) M101N SE red tortoise SE

2) M600 SE with the green 'jade' finish last seen on the M320 of 2007

3) M200 SE demonstrator in a colour called 'cognac'

4) M205 SE orange highlighter with a 1.5 italic nib rather than the customary BB (presumably with ink to match)

5) M200 / 205 (or possibly a new number designation) cartridge filler

6) Edelstein Ink of the Year 2014 - Garnet (presumably a rich dark red as opposed to the anemic Ruby)

Has anyone heard of anything else (there must be some sort of limited edition on the way), and which of the above do you think you will end up buying?

John

So we have had 3 of these visions come to fruition. Has anyone heard any more about 1, 2 or 4 :D

If that M101N looks like the 100N posted, I'm in

It's what I thought the first iteration of the M101n Tortoise was going to look like

Today for the first (and with luck, last) time in my life I feel like Perez Hilton.

On the strength of this thread, a well-respected European Pelikan dealer messaged me to confirm all the products mentioned above for 2014, and to wonder if I would like to pass on some interesting information about a rather extraordinary item coming in Autumn 2015 ...

An M600 SE PINK TORTOISE!

That is, the same white resin elements as the M400/600 white tortoise, but with a pink binde. However, although Pelikan are calling it a pink tortoise, the stripes are not exactly arranged in the same way as a normal mottled tortoise binde, but rather four toning shades of pink.

I think that's about 16 different varieties of squEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and a couple of OMGs right there, don't you?

John

Add some hearts to those squees, dude.

<3<3<3<3<3

Depending on the shades of pink featured (please, no neon hues), I may have to keep my eyes out for this one!

Love how the green stripes on the white tortoise have a vintage tint to them (& they match R&K Alt Goldgrün soooo well), so it'd be awesome if I could match this pink tortoise with a nice ink too. Hmm, maybe something like Iroshizuku Momiji?

Sheen junkie, flex nib enthusiast, and all-around lover of fountain pens...

I am going to start saving for one for my daughter.

Maybe with this pen she finally will start to like fountain pens.

Yeah, tell me about it.

A very favourable exception is Conway Stewart who produce SE/LEs at standard prices.... and very nice colours, too.

D.ick

yes but they don't make piston fillers which is a pity

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Any further news on when these will be coming out? I was digging around the main Pelikan site, and was able to find only the cognac M200 demo (3 above) and the Edelstein ink (6 above).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
