2014 New Product Roundup

From what I can tell from rumours here and round the web, it seems that Pelikan's 2014 lineup is going to comprise:

1) M101N SE red tortoise SE

2) M600 SE with the green 'jade' finish last seen on the M320 of 2007

3) M200 SE demonstrator in a colour called 'cognac'

4) M205 SE orange highlighter with a 1.5 italic nib rather than the customary BB (presumably with ink to match)

5) M200 / 205 (or possibly a new number designation) cartridge filler

6) Edelstein Ink of the Year 2014 - Garnet (presumably a rich dark red as opposed to the anemic Ruby)

Has anyone heard of anything else (there must be some sort of limited edition on the way), and which of the above do you think you will end up buying?

John

ow wow... the demonstrator cognac sounds fascinating. I will definitely have a look at getting one of those (based on price of course). and the M101N is intriguing, but i dont know if i would like red... i really like the sleep elegance of the lizard i just bought, its not too flashy.

A Red Tortoise was the thing that got my attention, but the M600 form is my weak spot, especially a Jade edition. Still, they will probably all be out side of my budget. When Pelikan wakes up and starts offering more of the SE's in all three sizes, 400/600/800 I think they will be on to something.

Sounds like a pretty good year is shaping up so far...I'm really interested in the m101n RED tortoise...I love the m101n SE's that I have so already and have really been hoping that Pelikan decides to keep going with these editions.

As for the JADE m600...I have the Green o'Green and wonder how different the acrylic is. I've seen the Ruby and Orange versions of the m320 but not the green 'Jade' one...but very curious.

Sad not to see any m800 sized special editions for this year.

What does the SE stand for?

Special Edition.

It's usually a regular (catalogue) model but in a different colour at twice the price*. Usually produced for a limited period.

Not to be confused with Limited Edition (LE).

* This is not meant to be taken literally; it refers to all manufacturers of writing products.

Yeah, tell me about it.

A very favourable exception is Conway Stewart who produce SE/LEs at standard prices.... and very nice colours, too.

Oh, a couple more!

7) All the Edelstein inks available in cartridges (presumably to tie in with the launch of the 200, which is P200/205 BTW) and in nice little tins.

8) An M1000 LE, the Raden Starlight (somewhere between moonlight & sunlight, presumably).

Thanks for the heads up! I can't wait to see the M600 in jade green. I've been searching high and low for the 320. Just wish they cam out with one in the 400 size.

This sounds like a very interesting line up of new models. Right now it looks as if Pelikan may well be getting a fair wad of cash from me in due course particular if the 600 SE is going to be in the same Jade as the 1935 pens of their time Pelikan Dr Codfish links to above :)

The description of the two-tone nib got my attention not eh Martini site. Cannot imagine they would do a two-tone on a 'regular' special edition....This pen has the potential to become one of my favourites.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered from Martini, because I suspect they will go fast and I really want a fine nib on this one. I have a good feeling I won't be disappointed, but only September will tell.

Ciao tutti

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
