Some time ago I bought a superb Omas 361 - at the moment it is very difficult to get ink to the nib (shaking the pen helps) If I leave the pen overnight no ink to the nib, leave it for a half day then it starts writing but stops after a few words. Any advice re how to get the pen to start first time would be welcome. Currently using Omas black ink and have flushed the pen. Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't shake too vigorously or you might end up with ink everywhere.

Also, I assume it did used to work correctly, as you say it is superb? How long did you put it away with ink in it, but without writing?

This is hard to judge, but it could be a ton of things; a clogged feed, something wrong with the nib, could also be just a little dry.

What I've experienced is that some pens just dry out very quickly, they do write for a few words just as you described, but not many, maybe 1/2 lines top. Is the ink coming out significantly lighter as in an earlier writing session? If so, what I usually do then, is just twist the piston very carefully, until I see some ink at the bottom of the feed, and then I draw the ink back in. But be careful in trying this, as you could end up covered in ink! Especially with a hooded nib like the 361 has, where you can't see the feed clearly.

edit: I only do this every once in a while, after I leave a certain pen for 1 or 2 days without writing. This shouldn't be a fix that must be applied every x lines or minutes!

Thanks, you're right re the ink everywhere (thank goodness for blotters) My usual 'policy' is never to leave a pen inked if I'm not using it for more than a week (ie if it's not in rotation - often wonder how long one might reasonably keep a pen inked but not used) The ink does get lighter after a line or so then it's over to the blotter, shake or tap the barrel and back to writing. Once it works on the flex side then it goes on and on, on the firm side it gets a bit lighter then it's blotter time. Will try what you suggest.

Thanks again for the advice.

Sounds like they centred the nib on the feed.

It was very annoying as the month before I purchased a Delta DV Cc and that didnt write at all as well. The difference was the Delta didnt get a second chance I quickly got a refund and went for an Omas 360

The OMAS 360 is my favourite pen. My experiences with Delta and OMAS nibs have been positive; however, nib adjustment issues can happen with any brand as a result of manufacturing tolerances and differences in writing styles (for example pens adjusted for heavy handed writers are likely to dissapoint light handed writers, and vice versa).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
