To follow up on my original review, another couple of comments about this notebook:

  • The book is hard bound, as I noted in the review. The binding is sewn and it seemed sturdy enough. To get the scans I used above, though, I basically had to open the book flat. This, I assumed, would break the tight binding. However, while I did get the pages to lay flat, the binding did very well and has thus far held up just fine.
  • Since the company seemed that it may be emphasizing novelty factor of the cover over paper quality, I contacted Culturenik directly for some specifics.
    • First of all, I got a prompt and friendly personal reply from a company rep. She indicated that while, no, fountain pen users were not a specific or intentional market for them (no big surprise, of course, but I thought I would ask!), the company is very conscious of the overall quality of their products.
    • Also, my main question being about consistency of the paper quality, the rep indicated that they do not anticipate variation in their paper production. (Some notebooks I have used in the past--which here will remain nameless!--have emphasized design while neglecting quality consistency). So that's no guarantee, but it's a promising reply!
  • And I forgot to mention that the journal runs about $13. For the amount of FP-friendly paper, solid binding, and the awesome Dalek graphic on the cover, I think it's a pretty good value.

After several days, I can say that the "Dalek" notebook is living up to its initial promise. I'm even using my Waterman 52 (which runs an 8 or 9 out of 10 on the proverbial "Wetness Scale") with a great deal of success. I'm interested to know what other people's experience with the notebook might be...!

I was wondering about The Beast Below, and almost bought it myself. Thanks for the review, enjoyed, enjoyed, enjoyed!

Anybody bought the other River Song Tardis notebooks yet? And when comes the next season, and can't we have a Special Edition sonic screwdriver fountain pen?? I'm sure there's some ballpoint out there somewhere, but I mean I neat fountain would be nice, I mean, cool!

So for now I remain
