High Five From Toronto

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I just got started into the pen world late last year. I'm a 29 year old from Toronto Canada who picked up my first fountain pen, a Kaweco Sport, and it snowballed into 7-8 more pens thereafter.

I'm actually going to stop by the store after work to pick up a Konrad Brush Pen and a J Herbin Gris Nuage :)

My pursuit is to improve my handwriting skills and I'm currently learning Spencerian, and the Palmer Method of handwriting... I guess Palmer is the derivative of Spencerian, so they go hand in hand.

I'm having a lot of fun with this new and addicting hobby... writing letters, testing inks and collecting pens (which I need to practice restraint if I don't want to go broke, LOL).

Have a good one everyone! And happy inking :)

Hi and welcome to FPN

Nice name: inkception...

Yes it is a wonderful addiction. No cure, but no one here wants a cure.....

Enjoy

Welcome, Inkception !

Improvement of one's handwriting is a noble pursuit. So, what other pens do you have ?

You didn't mention the pursuit of poverty. Anyway, one can always sell a kidney. :lticaptd:

Write with joy.

Welcome !

The first step is to acknowledge your problem....the FP addiction. Feel better. But, no cure....well, yes....more FPs & inks :)

Sasha Royale keeps recommending selling kidneys.. still won't reveal how many he's got left.

Happy fountain penning.

thanks & best wishes, Captain Nib

...keep nibbing on...

Don't look down on someone, unless helping them up :D

Ah! To improve what is used daily and to maximize its efficiency and beauty? There is no finer pursuit. And plus, my natural handwriting looks as if I've drank one too many cups of joe.

Since the Kaweco Sport, I aquired a Noodler's Creaper, Pilot Metropolitan, 78G, Waterman 100 Year Flex, Shaeffer Craftsman 0.6mm custom stub, Pilot Parallel 1.5 & 3.8, Pental Pocket Brush (not a FP, but I use FP inks in it), Konrad Brush Pen (just picked up yesterday!), TWSBI mini 1.1 (in the mail), Rotring ArtPen 1.1 & 1.9, and Fisher Space Pen (not a FP but my emergency pen I keep in my wallet).

Buuuut what I would LOVE to get is another question for another time, and for another pay salary, haha. ;)

I think you're right about the cash flow. (But Luck, WI IS north of Toronto)

Lol, apologies. I should really look at a map SMH

Yup, LOL, too. It's a common error. (FYI, Luck is 45 degrees north, Toronto is 43 degrees north)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
