Montblanc Hommage À J.p. Morgan

I have seen an excellent review of the J.P. Morgan in this forum and I recently found some on ebay etc. I was wondering what the original price for this fountain pen is and some further impressions on the weight for example (from review it doesn't seem to be that heavy at all).

Just trying to be sure that the price is a fair one !

Thanks
Christian

Here in The Netherlands I believe the J.P. Morgan was priced at EUR 1,750. I also bought one and it is truly one of my favorites.

Can't help you re: price or weight, but the Morgan and the Carnegie are two of my grail pens IMHO. Looking at eBay's 'Completed Auctions' database, it looks like this pen would sell for somewhere between $1,500 and $2K. OTOH, if you want to avoid eBay, the Morgan often appears in Bonham's biannual pen auctions. (FWIW, two of the 4810 edition were sold for $2K each, including auction premium.)

HTH!

Thanks a lot. I assume that is not to heavy or unpleasant to write with ? :)

Thanks for this. I think the ebay price is 3000-3500$ for new (I am looking for a new one but not sure if these on ebayare really new or just some slightly used and re-boxed ) will keep checking ;)

Thanks

Ah - well then, the auction route might be a better choice for you as:

- pen collections are sometimes sold via an auction house (Bonhams was involved with liquidating two pretty substantial MB collections last year)

- auction houses also typically uses experts who validate the history and providence of what they're selling, meaning that if they say a pen is unboxed and uninked, they have had someone (who knows pens) check this out.

DISCLAIMER: I don't work for Bonhams (or any auction house) nor do I receive financial compensation from them...but I did receive a catalog for one of their auctions once.

EDIT: added disclaimer

JLS 1,

many thanks for the hint ! I will certainly keen an eye for it altho I am not that big in the auction department ;) I am more of an impulse buyer but again I rarely buy from ebay because it sort of interfere with the magic of buying it from a shop, touching it first etc. For these amounts I think it is necessary somehow but who knows :D

Actually I just checked their site..yawn I can't even locate the dates of their auction and if their registration process is similar to the one of Christie's is such a waste of time. To each his own I guess. I will see if I find one I like or perhaps is not meant to be (I did find one reasonably priced on Ebay but with F nib I wouldn't go for it).

Thanks anyway for the valuable tips.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
