Suggestions On A Purple Ink Please!

For a bright, royal purple, check out Sailor Ultramarine. It's right on the border of what some people would might blue while others would call it purple. To me it looks purple.

I just picked up Diamine Billbury- almost a blue/purple. I liked it.

La Reine Mauve...I just happen to be using it today in a Pilot Falcon, with SEF nib. Really great flow and very nice in an EF nib.

I had (have?) a sample of North African Violet. Not a color I expected to like. Akkerman Voorhout Violet is nice as well, but much darker.

Hello. Your in the right place for help. FPN has been a lifeline for my passion...I have two favorite purple/violet inks: Private Reserve Tanzanite & Mont Blanc Lavender Purple. The PR Tanzanite has been called by some the "laxative of purple inks"; honestly...It flows so well (get it ?) and is such a deep, rich color. Darker and more saturated than the Mont Blanc. The MB is more violet in hue and has great shading qualities... Just wrote w/ the MB before posting this to get it right. Always keep the MB inked in my Waterman Kultur (German ?) Hemisphere, clear, demo series...Whew...All MB inks are considered by most to be high quality and trouble-free in most pens...Hope this helps. Enjoy ANY ink you choose. Regards, LeRoy P.S. Wrote a very favorable review for Amazon for the PR Tanzanite...

Besides the wonderful samples offered by Amberleadavis, check the ink reviews and the blog of some of our members to get an idea of the color.

Then, order an ink sample of the ones you like the most.

I am also looking for a purple bottled ink and will probably go for the Mont Blanc Lavender-Purple but own some brilliant lamy purple cartridges.

Waterman Carene, Parker 75 ciesle, Mont Blanc Noblesse VIP, Parker Sonnet, Sheaffer Prelude, Lamy Studio, Cross Beverly.

Why not try the new Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses. It seems to have gone from a nice burgundy to a vibrant purple.

Hey Garden... How's the Noodlers Mauve working for you? I'm in this post because I'm looking for another purple ink... my La Reine Mauve is clogging any pen I put it in!

I’ve never had a flow issue with it. Dries a little dull. I’ve found Waterman Purple satisfies my urge for purple.

Waterman Purple works for me. In a dry and shadey Pilot 912 SM, it showcases all the tonal variations, in a slightly wetter and consistent Waterman Phileas M, it is a solid purple with no lack of intensity.

Reds and purples are said by repairers to attack sacs in sac pens. Better to use them in C/C pens. if the filler is damaged, you can replace it.

I depend on Sailor Shigure and Sailor Ultramarine. The first is a deep dark purple, and the Ultramarine brighter. Also like Montblanc Lavender Purple. With the MB ink, looks anything but purple when it goes down on paper, let it dry overnight to get the purple color come out.

After being disappointed by Dark Lilac and Diamine Majestic Purple, I tried Cross Violet - dark, red-leaning (as opposed to blue-leaning) with a lovely green sheen, a nice 'round' color is how it strikes me. I'm quite pleased with it but I'd also like to try Bungbox L'Amant.

Interesting, based on review pictures Majestic Purple feels close to L'Amant. Although I don't have L'Amant.

R&K Scabiosa or J. Herbin Puissere de Lune for me. Both dusky, complex purples.

I believe Scabiosa is actually an iron gall ink, so it'll start out looking like grape kool-aid and blacken over time.

If you compare vis' reviews of DL and L'Amant, they look almost identical; if you compare lgsoltek's, they look quite different, the L'Amant is much pink-ier. (SNAK's review of L'Amant shows it even more pinky.) To my eye, Majestic was close to LG's DL but a smidge less red.

Here's the sample squiggle for L'Amant from Vanness' site:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
