What Are Some Exclusive Or Rare Pens That Are Only Available In Japan?

I've been looking for some (affordable) pens that are difficult to find outside of Japan that I might be able to look for when I visit the country. I was wondering if any of you guys had a favorite Japan exclusive that you could recommend? So far I've found the Sailor Professional Gear Slim Morita Exclusive to be one of the few I could find that is difficult to get outside of Japan. I like it though!

I know Lamy did a white barrelled red clipped version of the Safari and Joy that I think were particular to Japan, although as you would expect you can now buy them on the internet so not exclusive.

This looks interesting, but I do not read Japanese. Whats it all about?

It's basically a fountain pen picture book.

I bought one a few months ago and I remember it had lots of pictures of different models and their RRPs.

 

Also there was a section with adverts for the specialty fountain pen shops in Japan. It wasn't that expensive about 15 to 20 bucks... I think that edition had something about the Maruzen Onoto limited editions... I think thats what was showing at the Maruzen shop this weekend.

 

It's like a playboy.. no one reads the articles anyway!

Both Itoya and Maruzen have their own lines of pens. Itoya's, in my experience, are always on display. Be sure to ask at Maruzen. The Nihonbashi store had a few of their Streamline pens left but they sent me to the Tokyo flagship store for their Athena The Pen. I do not know what other models they have available other than these and their limited editon anniversary (150th?).

I also do not know how easy or difficult these are to find outside Japan.

I bought an Itoya Pilot Custom 74 in colour yellow (egg-yolk). The colour is supposed to be available at Itoya.

From memory, I think Romeo is one of Itoya's lines of pens. Best to probably check on their website of go in store! If going to Tokyo, I'd highly recommend the Ginza store and ask for Matt (the Caucasian dude) as he was a super cool and helpful guy (I had also planned to pick up a more exclusive pen). Other than that, I recall Itoya also sold a cheaper variant of the Capless which was basically the 18K nib unit fitted to the steel nibbed variant which.

I ended up picking up a Pilot Custom 92 in blue (a little harder to source as the colour is exclusive to Japan) and a Pilot Capless Decimo (only intended for the Japan market).

AH HA! Mystery solved! I bought a Pilot Capless used at Kingdom Note. While using it to compare sizes with a Pilot Capless Decimo at Maruzen, the clerk there was very surprised that my pen had a steel nib and told me that they usually have gold nibs. So it's an Itoya issued pen.
