Looking For A Permanent Black

alv_23

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm looking for a permanent black ink. I want a deep black, without shading, I want "the black".

An other requirement it's the price, because i'm a student's and I can't afford to buy expensive inks.

I've seen reviews of the new mont blanc permanent black and I like it, but it's expesive... So, any recomendation?

regards

If you can get it, Noodler's Anti-Feather / X-Feather, it's much darket and more black than their regular black. Since you're in Europe getting Noodler's might be hard, maybe Aurora Black (I've seen many recommendations but never tried it) would be easier?

I would try the "classic and permanent" blackest blacks:

Platinum Carbon Ink

Sailor Kiwa-Guro

Blackest but non permanent:

Noodler´s Heart of Darkness

Private Reserve Velvet Black

One last note, useful for me since I admitted a simple fact: there is no ink supplier where I live, so I must buy inks only online; forget once for all the price and shipping issues, otherwise you are confined to local sources... which usually are scarce or none!

Yo probaría los "clásicos y permanentes" más negros entre los negros:

Platinum Carbon Ink

Sailor Kiwa-Guro

Los más negros pero no permanentes:

Noodler´s Heart of Darkness

Private Reserve Velvet Black

Saludos.

I see.

If i want noodler's I must buy it online (because I only have acces to diamine, MB, parker, caran d'ache, faber castell, cross, sheafer, waterman pelikan and sailor) and I must take care with the shipping cost.

Does Akkerman make a permanent black? They have a beautiful iron gall but it's not the deep dark abyss that is Polar Black. Nevertheless on a cost basis the Akkerman inks would be my suggestion.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

They do have a black ink, the #30, Het Zwarte Pad. I did a review, but it isn't permananent. By permanent, I think most people assume at least waterproof. See the Ink Review forum under Akkerman.

NOODLERS IS NOT AVAILABLE IN EUROPE......

(as reminder for all the peoples having suggested it).

You can try aurora black. Is a really dark black, is not too expansive, but is not waterproof.

It has a very wet flow, sonit is more suitable for medium medium/fine nibs.

No need to go around shouting (incorrect) things. It's sometimes available in Europe, which is why it's one of my suggestions (AFAIK, Noodler's in the EU is roughly as expensive as MB or Iroshizuku is in the US, so it's expensive but not completely out of range). Edited by WirsPlm

Oh, yeah, because he made inks just for the UK market. I remember now. Thank you for the link.

Oops. I completely missed the detail that you are in Spain.

we haven't got much brands variety in Spain... :( So the solution it's look for in the internet but the problem are the shipping cost, that for a student it's a problem

Pelikan 4001 black should certainly be black enough and permanent enough?

Of those, the only companies that make a waterproof/permanent ink are MB and Pelikan.

You have already ruled out the MB, which leaves the Pelikan Fount India, a carbon black ink that is suitable for fountain pens.

However, don't forget that the Noodler's Black bottle is 90 mls, so you get more ink for your money, so while the initial purchase is a bit high, the ink will last you a fair time. Many eBay vendors will also give a substantial discount on a second bottle, so you could even buy two bottles of Black, or perhaps Noodler's Black and Noodler's Blue.

You have access to far more ink brands that I do here in the US. Although I have lots of great options for ordering ink online, Parker Quink, in black, is the only ink I can pick up locally.

Of the ink you have access to, I have used Parker and Waterman quite a bit, and have some limited experience with Sheaffer and Cross black. All would be considered permanent in the classical sense, meaning they were not made to easily wash off and would stand a bit of water and stay legible. Of the four I have tried, I would go with the Parker Quink.

Honestly, though if I were in your place, I would probably just pick one up based on price. Depending on what your local prices are, the Diamine might be a good choice since it comes in a 80 ml bottle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
