I was very happy with this ink. I ended up giving away my bottle, but mostly because I found a red I liked better, and I have a thing for minimizing my number of ink bottles.

Proud resident of the least visited state in the nation!

Whether you eel or snake looks more like a worm is a matter of opinion and little importance. What is important is that he looks a jolly little chap very suitable for such a jolly coloured ink.

 

For myself, I only have one true red which is used on those occasions when only red will do for underlining etc. But I have started creeping into Burgundy shades so a bottle of Rattler Red could arrive in the future.

I finally used the sample I had of Rattler Red due to your review and I love it! I have several reds from different companies and don't care for them, mostly because they are on the dry side and very bright, some transparent. I had begun to believe that I just didn't like red ink.

 

This is my kind of red, a blue red and it is wet! It does well in a dry writer I have. I don't have a problem so far with dry time.

I'm wondering - is it the red that takes away the stains, or the eel quality? I don't have a red eel ink, but I have reds and I have eel inks. At the moment, though, no stained pen... unless you count the cheapie school pen with metallic-paint section that stained on the section when I dipped in in Akkerman Simplisties Violet to fill... after cleaning and flushing, the section is still violet... will give both options a try and see how they work out.

I dipped the pen in Noodler's black American Eel for about the time it took to take the Simplisties Violet fill and stain, and the stain is mostly gone! Good enough for me. I don't need to try again with a red ink. It's the eel.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
