I wanted to say 'Hello' as a new member. In just the small time I have been a member of this 'network' I have been impressed with the members and their willingness to help and solve problems. I look forward to learning more about fountain pens and contributing what knowledge I have acquired.

I have recently returned to the US after spending two years in Vienna, Austria. While there I apprenticed under one of the few remaining 'walk-in' vintage pen repair shops in the world! It was a great experience and I learned a lot about the history and repair of fountain pens. We have opened an online store with some of our rare and refurbished European pens and offerings on pen repair. If you have the time I would welcome any feed-back you have on our site.

What do you use for daily writing ?

I have a couple of 'daily writers'. I have a custom made blue celluloid with a glass nib, (The celluloid and nib are both vintage.) that my good friend made for me. (Wiener Füllfeder Werkstätte) I like to carry that one around because it starts a lot of conversations! For around the house I have a German war-time production 'Perfekto' with a steel nib and 1930's (unable to read the name) with a cheap gold-plated two tone nib. Both are button fillers that I repaired/refurbished. They are not spectacular pieces, but a couple of the first pens I fixed, so I kept them for sentimental reasons. All three write well and I enjoy using them. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BzpSRmLKSd27czI0dkF2WXI3aFU&usp=sharing Feel free to take a look!

Those are some awesome pens you have for sale. The Matador Garant calls my name. I have never seen a glass nib other than the glass dip pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
