Until recently, I only ever had one fountain pen at a time, so I carried it in a single pen case by Lamy. I always also carried a backup ball point or rollerball, somehow; in a coat pocket, or clipped into a pen loop in my bag, for example.

Now that I have more fountain pens, I decided to ink up and carry three pens, being each other's backups, and just to have a bit of variety. When I was in an office store (which is also a smallish pen boutique, with a nice selection of Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Visconti and some lower end Sailors), I asked if they had a case for three pens. First, they came up with a Lamy case, but it was just too small. The Parker IM didn't fit at all, which at this point, is my longest and fattest pen.

They also had two calf leather cases by Samsonite, one in very dark brown and the other black. I'd normally go for black, but this one was very slick and shiny. It almost felt like plastic, and I didn't like it. The dark brown is matte, very soft and actually feels like leather.

So, I went home with the dark brown Samsonite, and I'm quite pleased with it.

Images are attached to this post. The pens are:

Black: Sailor Sapporo GT Medium, Diamine Asa Blue.

Red: Parker Sonnet Red Lacquer Fine, Waterman Intense Black

White: Waterman Hemisphere Fine, Waterman South Sea Blue.

I've attached a writing sample for people who are interested in that.

I like to have two different pens with me at work, or, more accurately, two colours of ink available. Usually I have the Montblanc Diaries and Notes pen pouch in my bag. Occasionally I'd like to have a third pen with, and I add the Van der Spek single pen pouche.

During the day, I tend to clip one pen to my shirt pocket and leave the rest on my desk (small office) or in my bag (client's office)

When I'm out taking pictures, or on other occasions where I might take just a few notes, I carry one pen, usually not a very expensive one, in the Van der Spek pouch.

I buy/receive only shirts with pockets. If you happen to have a button up shirt without a pocket, the neck placket can be used. And, no one ever grabs anything out of my shirt pocket, not even my sons or spouse. Just saying.

Not that 'fountain penners' are prone to any kind of obssessiveness you understand, but this is what I take around on a daily basis:

http://www.peggysparlour.co.uk/pubpics/pouches-et-al.jpg

The carry pouch usually remains on my desk, but the A5 folder with 'Quiver' holder is taken to general informal meetings, and the A4 folder to more technical meetings.

(Not to mention a Pilot V-pen zipped into my fleece pocket - should anyone want to borrow a pen!).

I would have thought a folder type option may be best as a student, or an A4 Quiver perhaps?

Have fun looking at all the alternatives!!

Cheers,

Eclectica.

Really nice pen wallet, great pics. :)

In my self-designed pen case;

With its unmistakable pocket for a spare cartridge. B)

Now this is seriously nice and a great concept. Where did you get this from?

Hi Ben.

Thank you, ;)

I got the idea from this pen case by Lamy:

:eureka:

But there were a couple of issues:

1- Shipping to Brazil would cost more than the price of the case;

2- It did not have the (now trademarked B)) mini-pocket for the spare cartridge.

Best!

While at work I usually carry my pen in a lanyard that I crocheted with a pen and pencil pocket. If I'm not at work then the pen goes in my pocket or bag.

I love this! Great job! I designed/knitted a wearable pen cozy. It's in this thread. I'd post a photo here, but ever since Flickr changed their format, I can't figure out how to post photos from it to here any more.

Ziptrickhead showed me how to post photos from Flickr, so here it is, so you don't have to click through afterall (gthrelkeld's lanyard is way fancier, though!)

I love it! I tried the link to your pattern (in the other thread) and the page couldn't be found.

I pulled the plug on my blog some time ago. It's now on the 4Shared file-sharing website for free (I think you do need to register to get it, if I remember right). If that doesn't work, PM me and I'll email you the .pdf.

I have been carying my pens in my left pants pocket for many years and have never had any problems except for slip caps that get jammed on too tight. Its been the most problem free place to cary them that I have found.

if I only have one or two pens with me, clip them to my collar opening, like some people have said they did -- or to a strap if I'm wearing a sundress (but never the Parkers -- the Arrow clip is too hard to unhook from things).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

Yep, it sure Will catch.

Ruth the trick I use is to hold the clip with two fingers at the top so it's not overstressed then lift the very tip of the clip Up before removing the pen. It'll slide right off.

Missing clapping hands emoticon X 3 for the mannequin to show off your lanyard. BRAVO!

Regarding clips, the Waterman Hemisphere is the best one on the pens I have. It's very long, and never catches.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
