Broken Carene Nib Grip Section

Hi,

First time poster and I am in need of help and experience. Unfortunately my Waterman Carene Fountain Pen has suffered the same fate as Balenemate's pen. His link is here from June 13.

I've added pictures below:

The crack is around the entire circumference of the Pen grip. I believe that the Fountain Pen lid itself is defective and must have some how damaged the pen :(

Anyone with experience of this problem?

Will Waterman replace the entire pen under warrant? Rather than attempt a repair?

Thanks

Tom

Hi Crowley74. Have the same problem with my Carene. Kept the pen in my drawer for some time (never really used it, just dipped to test), checked on the pen just few days ago and found this crack around the section. I've messaged Waterman the other day but still haven't got any reply. Did you bring yours to a Waterman store or did you have the pen sent to them? Also want to ask how they were able to fix it. Thanks. :-)

Very old topic but Waterman will not repair such damage. They will offer an expensive replacement.

PS, the point of break is precisely where the cap touches the section so I suspect a drop or entrapment of parts thus it will break at that point.

  • 4 years later...

I just removed the cartridge from my Carene, only to find that the piece of the feed that seals around the neck of the cartridge has broken!!!

The encircled part has broken and I'm sure I'll be able to fix it if I can remove it:

I need to open the section in order to carry out a repair and have only been able to disassemble it to this point:

How do I go about disassembling it further, as it appears to need a special tool?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
