Cult Pens Deep Dark Green (Diamine)

This is one of Cult Pens' new range, made by Diamine. It should be of interest to the MB British Racing Green fraternity. It was love at first sight for me and I'm hoping they also introduce it in cartridge form as they did for Deep Dark Blue.

 

On my monitor, the colours came out well, but YMMV.

Correx: the Namiki VP italic should read 0.3, not .03. (But you probably worked that out.) That's what comes of trying to write while I had half an eye on the TV news.

On my ipad the Green Black looks a lot greener than the Deep Dark Green. Just wanted to check that was the true position recognising the distortions of colour that can sometime occur via digital media

I'm looking at the test now in daylight, and yes, Green Black is greener. I've just checked again using the most neutral test I can think of -- Q-Tip on white copier paper -- and Green Black is not only more visibly green but also looks a little more towards the blue end of the spectrum by comparison.

 

I've also done the "open the bottle and stick it on the windowsill" test (I need to patent that process... ) so that the light shines through the ink left on the screw threads of the neck. Green Black is still noticeably greener than DDG; Evergreen is much bluer than both of them; and DDG could be mistaken for a slightly off black. Not that any of that necessarily has a bearing on how it looks on paper.

 

Note for sheen fans: the Evergreen on the test has so much brassing that it doesn't actually look green from most angles now. I hadn't used it for some time, so it's had some "bottle age" and that might have exaggerated the effect.

Thanks for the review! I have Deep Dark Green in my TWSBI 580 (with a 1.1 nib) at the moment, and it writes very nicely and looks beautiful. I'm glad I took the plunge on purchasing it!

Good to know. However worth mentioning that the blue in Evergreen disappears after a day on the page -- though it is noticeable in the bottle (bluer than Graphite, forex).

It's a wonderful ink and I've used it in letters, alongside their Racing Green and Salamander, and the differences are clearly visible. To me anyway!

After doing some after supper journalling while my wife makes tomorrows gingerbread dough I must say I may have discovered something...

I was using a dip pen with Diamine Teal for today's events, but after getting tired of getting a blots and sometimes running out of ink mid-word, I switched to my lovely Pelikan M400 loaded with CPDDGreen. I'm amazed that they came out more or less the same colour.

Sure - it's dark outside, and all I have is a lightbulb in the desk light and some "warm" LED from the ceiling lamps, and I've had a glass of Tripel with dinner and I'm sipping Mikkeller Black as I'm typing, but hey - I feel I might be on to something.

 

Could anyone verify my finding?

In the light of day, there seems to be a subtle difference, with CPDDG being (surprise), a little greener.

 

I now understand the need for big daylight windows in stores for clothing and such items.

I'm currently using a sample of Diamine Green/Black which I like very much. However, I like this one too. I have never tried any of the Cult pens DD inks. Maybe this is one I should go for.

 

I never found MBRG attractive. It was always far too black for me. A bit like El Lawrence: almost completely black unless you squint while looking at it in bright sunshine
