Some Previously Unshown Leader And Brahmam Celluloids From India

In the spirit of my earlier thread on this topic:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/70378-leader-pen/

I found a box of Leader and Brahmam celluloids that I had stored away. I had bought the entire stock from a shop that had these pens in one of my many pen hunts... I had totally forgotten about them but I think they deserve to be shown for the variety and beauty in the patterns... I hope you enjoy the pics!

Are you going to keep all of those beautiful pens to yourself?

They look great, how is the writing experience?

Hari,

these are really beautiful. I see one with Wing Sung look alike section. Do they manufacture such complex sections in India ? Intersting fact is, these section and all its parts are freely available in China local market, but their internet ad is mostly in Chinese language, little difficult without a Chinese speaking friend. Thanks for showing these raer pens.

yes, in South India, many conical nibbed pens were made in ebonite, nibs from China. Here is a scholarly thread by Shrujaya on this subject:

Those are beautiful! Please do keep your collection together: you may have a unique history of Indian pen craftsmanship. I'm sure the time will come (if it has not come already) when it will be impossible to replicate the examples you have gathered.

Thank you for taking such beautiful picture and share them, as well as the wonderful history of the pens!

That's a beautiful collection you have there Hari.

Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
