Has anyone here tried it yet? It looks beautiful! I also see that the price of the Vac 700 has gone down to $65.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I want this pen to be all black with just a tiny ink window. The black/demo doesn't look right to me - but I do like the black and gold.

I really dislike gold. Feels wrong / blingy for my taste. Glad they make it for those that do like gold trim.

OK, I will be a p*sspot: I would want a white one with gold trim. The black and gold looks too industrial.

Is a white one in the works? That would look good.

Alas, Goulet Pen Co. sold out before I could secure one; I hope to fare better when additional stock arrives.

Both the white and black were proposed by TWSBI on their facebook page; they actually asked for comments from everyone. The black version won out, but this is what the white version looked like:

Plenty to be had on the TWSBI web site.

I have the rose gold - have not inked it yet - I'm savoring the newness of it, apparently.

I will say, I am not a huge fan of rose gold in general; I'd never buy a piece of rose gold jewelry.

However, this pen is gorgeous. The gold isn't too pink like some rose gold I've seen, but it's not as brassy looking as the pictures above. There's a richness and depth to the color.

I posted a couple of pictures over on my Instagram.

Thank you! I admit to being a rose gold wearer.

I agree that the white looked better but I'd happily write with either.

I am awaiting one now. It really does look good with a load of dark blue ink it it, doesn't it?

If I were to want the 580 in another color, I think red would be the one I'd request. I like the old standards.

Frankly, the white leaves me cold.

The only other colored 580s are going to be the Classics, it seems (although that can always change, lol). But those are opaque, not demonstrators.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
