So wonderful that you are back to making your beautiful and unique cases!

Glad to see you're feeling well enough to get some work done, despite the long-covid diagnosis.  In Canada I've read reports that say that people with long-covid seem to be getting over their symptoms after vaccination, so there's still hope that you can beat that soon as well.

The cases continue to stun!

Thanks Dennis I had my first vaccine (Astra Zenica) about 5 days before I developed symptoms. I have to be honest I believe it would have been much worse for me being classed as vulnerable from a medical point of view had I not had the vaccine.

I have made this case backwards starting with the outer covers and then making what I call the insert.

This is only possible because I took the time to make the new molds.

I am pretty sure this is close to the colour I was asked to create.

I’m pretty sure it is, too 😉

I may have jumped a few steps in the process here as you can see the case is stitched and the edges have been trimmed and finished.

I have made the toggle / pen rest from a piece of bog oak, time to make some holes an finish assembly.

Thanks Anne-Sophie I am feeling much better now.

A colour scheme that is quite tricky to get right from some angles it almost looks black, take it out in the sun and the red really shows through. I made the toggle / pen rest from ancient bog oak, The leather ID tag has my makers mark on both sides.

I was not sure about this idea when I was asked to make it but I have to admit I love it now.

As Monty Python used to say "Now for something completely different" No making of pictures this time.

One of my neighbours asked me to make this as a keep sake box for his daughter.

The box is made from mdf to prevent movement and wrapped in white Italian leather.

The tray and edges are Ash which has been finished with wax. The inside is lined in pink suede.

The next case on the list is a five pen case for Montblanc 149 fountain pens.

After forming five pieces of Kydex over the 149 mold I wrapped them in suede.

As this is a first five pen case I needed to make a new mold from scratch.

Here you can see the wet leather in the mold, the plastic sheet is there to protect the leather from the wood and to protect the wood from moisture from the wet leather.

The front cover is out of the mold for some dye.

Once it has dried out I can assemble the pieces.

Thanks Anne-Sophie I appreciate your comments.

The five pen case is progressing.

As ever mistakes can happen and shortly after taking this picture, I found when punching the stitching holes that the back panel was not glued in the right place. As I had started punching the holes I had to remake the rear panel.

My view on mistakes is they happen, I wish I could stop making the same ones. I must have made this same mistake 3 or 4 times now. It is important to fix it correctly even if that means remaking the whole case.

I have also started working on a project for the London pen show, more details will follow.

Your pen cases are works of art and it always seems they are made like magic, but over the years, you showed, that sometimes, a project doesn't come as smoothly as it seems.

Oh! The London pen show is now definitely on!

Beautiful suede colors!

The five pen varient is new to me, Just to keep things interesting my next order is for two five pen cases for ASC fountain pens.

My stock of Kydex took a hammering to make all of these, I dont keep a stock of them. I mold them as needed.

I ordered a fresh suede skin because I knew it would be needed, it arrived just in time.

As I was wrapping the pen tubes in the suede I had the outer covers in their mold. In this picture one is dry the other is wet this explains the colour difference.

Test fitting the outer cover.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
