Carene Or Ondorro? Plz Suggest

I am planning to buy a new FP. And I have shortlisted Waterman Carene and FCD Ondorro.

 

Having used Waterman FPs before, I am bent towards Carene (besides its gorgeous looking nib)

 

But want more unbiased view. I guess there are FPN members who may have experience with both.

 

Pricewise, Ondorro may be half or three fourth of the Carene price depending on the Carene model.

 

Having read so many reviews on the FPN regarding the two FPs, I am in a bit of dilemma.

 

Plz give me one reason which of the two, when I take it out to write I would find AWESOME !

Two very different pens, from the ornate Carene to the minimalist Ondoro.

 

From a purely personal view I wouldn't bother with the metallic finish Carene versions - they are too expensive and too heavy. Waterman nibs also seem wider than even the normal Europeans. Other than that a very nice pen. The resin version is beautifully made and the nib is a full 18k but very stiff. My fine nib writes slightly on the dry side and had to be opened up a little.

 

The Ondoro is a solid and well finished pen with an open nib (which I prefer). The Faber Castell steel nibs are generally very smooth but still not flexible.

 

I'm not sure what other pens you own, but my first choice would be the Ondoro - in time you will probably buy the other one anyway!
