Which Conway Stewart Are You Using Today?

An early 1930's (flat peak & ball clip) 475 green marble with black veins bought at the London Pen Show yesterday. Has a fine nib which is perfect for the form filling I'm doing at the moment.

I also bought a similar black Conway which on closer inspection is a Svanstrom So Popular no.1.

Sounds like you had a good show. Peter.

Those were just the Conway Stewarts. I was even more happy with the others!

What can possibly be better than a green marble 475? :D

Do tell.

An onyx button fill Unique, an Olsen ladies Duofold, a massive (149 mm) Acca, a Duovac and olive ripple Waterman. Less better were a brown Unique and nos. grey Summit 160.

So close! --Winston, black, with Diamine Cult Pens Deep Dark Purple--rich and distinctive, but suitable for work too.

A Montague with ESSRI and a 100 (2012 reissue) with Super Quink Blue-Black Solv-X. Two new CS that are actually quite good. shame about the company.

That's a real beauty. In fact that's the pen that birthed my desire to own a 100. Enjoy.

Beautiful, that's my favorite Conway Stewart color. I would love to have a 100 in Poinsettia--have they all been sold? What are the chances of finding one these days?

I have not seen any offered for sale, certainly not new. It's been 5 years, that stock which was limited to begin with is long gone. Might find it occasional on the secondary market, but that's going to be very hoit or miss. And I would not mind owning one as well.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

That's too bad. :( I looked for the closest possible colors to it since I noticed that some of the names have changed over the years. A less vivid variant--'Exmoor'--comes close, according to online images, but none are offered in the 100 version. Well I guess we'll have to keep an eye out for one. Let's see how long it takes to find it...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
