Which Conway Stewart Are You Using Today?

Switched my CS 100 Coral Green's ink from Iro Asa-Gao to Conway Stewart Bodmin black. I had forgotten what a great smooth flowing ink this was. It almost feels like a "lubricating" ink. I feel like I should always have a pen inked up with it. Makes me want another color of CS ink.

And another pen to use it?

Well there should be one under the Christmas tree (if only I can get out and get a tree! More snow coming down now).

cs montague with a fine nib filled with MB Mystery Black. My first cs and I am loving the smooth nib!

I am now debating whether to get another CS; possibly a Belliver

I think you'll like the Belliver. Has a nice size and weight as the barrel is lined with brass. I have one and am getting another soon.

Congratulations on that Montague, m0rr1s. I've always thought it looked very stylish and sophisticated.

Hope you managed to get out for the tree...and maybe we now know what might be under it. :D

Still haven't been able to get our tree. The tree seller in not even that far away, down the road to the roundabout in Lisbon, where for the past 3 years we have purchased a live b&b tree which goes into the yard in January. With the snow and work schedules, we just haven't had time yet. Hoping to get there today to see if they have what I want, and perhaps go back on Sunday.

The pen however, is already put away for Christmas!

Good luck with the tree, Rick...we're fast running out of time. Still, as long as the pen is there...

Today they were a hard rubber 330 Scribe and a late 475 with Made in England stamped around the barrel. Both black. The Scribe has a scratchy nib but is still a reasonable writer.

Wonderful time Christmas, so many cards to write and so many pens to put to use!

I'm a big fan of the 475!

My "Medical Sciences" LE from Kevin Chang.

Essentially a Belliver with a chased ebonite body. The nib I have on it at the moment is an exceptionally springy IM that was crisped up by Pendelton Brown. It's inked with Sheaffer's Skrip Black.

Well, we were finally able to get our tree late yesterday afternoon. The only Canaan Fir (live with root ball) left on her lot, it was a monster of a tree. The two gents struggled to get it in the back of our van, and my wife and daughter and I struggled even more to get it out of the van, onto a sled (still snow here), dragged across the front yard and up and in through the front door. Now comes the decorating, and hopefully I will find a nice CS under it come Christmas morn.

Happy holidays to all my CS mates, and especially to Mary and her family, as well as to Bryant and his.

My little green CS 15 has entered my pen rotation again today and I'm very happy. In between times, I forget just what a fab little pen it is to use. It positively romps across the page. I sit in meetings, surrounded by people all using their notebooks (electronic) and laptops, as we are a "paperless" organisation. And there's me, a confirmed anachronism, taking copious notes with my 50 year old CS, and all the happier for doing so.

And when their electronics crash or "upgrade" out of usefulness, we'll still be enjoying our lovely CS.

Exactly! I try not to look too smug when they can't get a wi-fi connection to access meeting papers

Inked my Winston medium italic up with OMAS purple on Sunday and used it properly today

Very comfortable to use for such a big pen. I am very pleased with it.

Thank you warblerick for the advice. I bought a Belliever in Meteor. The nib seems better than my CS Montague! It looks like I will be saving for another one...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
