That would be great! I am back in Reno now. Let me know when and where.

Hello - New to the Area, looking for a local pen shop to tune my FP nibs - I write in a very small font size and use EF nibs, however the ink flow on almost all of them is too much, looking for a drier experience. Am left-handed too, which doesn't help much in keeping the smudging and smearing down.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Hi there fellow Reno-ite!

Unfortunately, there are no local pen shops in Reno. I send my pens to Michael Masayama for tuning. But, be warned, he has a very long, long, processing time. But he is totally worth it.

I understand the challenges of being a lefty. May I suggest using a more absorbent paper (i.e. not Tomoe River) and a faster drying ink. I have good luck with Waterman inks and most Pilot Iroshizuku inks. I prefer stub nibs, but I understand the need for finer points.

Hello, I just recently moved up to Reno for school and would love to join in on the meet ups! I met another fountain pen user in one of my class and I know he also knows another fountain pen person, so that makes three!

Would the Reno people like to meet sometime over winter break?

Hi Folks,

There is a pretty active group of FP users that have met up a couple of time informally. They have a meeting planned for 9/27 at 5pm at the Riverside hub!

Best,

Jake

Hi, I live and work in Reno and I do use and collect fountain pens. I floated a 'meetup' group a few days ago. If anyone is interested, do let me know and we can meet up.

I'd be interested in fountain pen meetups at some future date when it's safe to socialize again.  I figure that's about a year from now.  I don't object to wearing a mask, but I like my non-work time to be mask-free as much as possible.  That's not exactly doable except at home.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
