That's depressing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oakman's is gone.... I ran into the guy who ran it. I had no idea it was gone until I needed refills..... :wallbash:

It's kind of a good thing for me, I'd of likely bought half the store....

I'd love to meet and talk pens once in a while, but I've got the two job thing going, so not much spare time....

Is there still interest in meeting?

I think I'm the only one in Carson. I'm happy to drive to Reno.

It seems there's one vote for Tuesday after work.

That will work for me. Anyone else?

Diane

Help, amberleadavis!

I'm trying to send a PM to the Reno folks in this thread and I'm getting a message that I can't send until August 11. It is August 11.

Is there a fix?

Thanks,

Diane

Just wait until later in the day.

I think the new system has some sort of new user PM limit.

The Reno crowd should charter a bus and come to the SF Pen Show.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

I wish there were that many of us. I get comments from Millenials here when I'm using a fp, "What is that thing?"

MEETING...

Hello everyone, I was talking to sashimimi earlier today about getting together with any FP afficionado from around here.

We were talking about meeting next Saturday (10/4/2014) at 2pm ant the Bibo's coffeshop near the UNR campus.

If you are interested in grabbing a cup of coffee and talk about pens/inks/paper let me know....Also if that time does't work let me know too and see if can find a way around it.

Cheers

If you can't make it on 10/4, please post a better time for you. The more of us the merrier (and some ink stained fingers too). I'll bring stuff to clean up after ourselves.

I am excited for tomorrow, Talked to Beerman in the hall the other day, and we can at least show off some pens (though my visconti is still missing!!!). There is another person we work with who is turning pens, and has expressed interest, but of course I forgot to tell him about it. I will email him now.

I think the first meeting of the Reno Fountain pen club was a success.

We had a great time talking about pens and trying pens and inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
