If someone really needs some Chelpark ink, stationerybazaar.com (no affiliation) seems to have some stock of Blue-Black ink.

Did recently buy a few bottles of Chelpark. While reading this did a quick check on the dates. All are 2012 or earlier. So I guess its true. Pretty unfortunate though. I have been using Chelpark inks continuously since 1984/5 and its going to be hard to start using another ink :( .

Can anyone suggest inks that are similar in consistency and the deep blue of their royal blue?

Deepak

Bril blue is a nice deep blue colour. I will post some scans tomorrow for comparison.

Hi All,

It appears that Chelpark (P G Stationery Pvt Ltd) has resumed manufacturing inks. I have very recently collected a couple of Washable Blue ink bottles with date of packing as 08/2014. The price is 20 INR/bottle. I am in Kolkata and further search for Chelpark ink has not yielded any result. Can anyone confirm if these are available in other cities?

Kasuhik.

And on a sidenote, our local manufacturer SULEKHA has fresh stocks of ink in their showroom at Jadavpur, Kolkata. Currently offering Blue, Black, Green (Emerald), Turquoise, Red. No orange, brown, blue-black, moss green or pink though.

Kb, that sounds exciting! How can someone living in another city order Sulekha inks?

I've been hunting for Chelpark's Crimson Violet ever since I finished my bottle a year ago. Any leads on where to get Chelpark's NOS ink? (except blue and black)

I have! He has given me an offer I couldn't refuse. : )

Is it possible for Sulekha to ship inks to other Indian cities, kb?

Oh, I don't know. They are reluctant even to send ink bottles to local shops of Kolkata! I have requested the owners of stationery shops that I frequent to ask Sulekha for some consignment. This they have done, but to no avail. People at Sulekha are determined to sell their ink bottles only from their outlet at Jadavpur and do not seem very interested in wider circulation of their product. Perhaps they do not properly understand the huge potential market that they are missing. But you can always call them. Try: http://sulekhaink.co.in/contacts.htm

Is it actually necessary to telephone Chelpark and depend upon the information given by the person who picks up the telephone? Surely the mother country of the Indian Institute of Technology has some IT capabilities.

Should I wish to find out about the current situation of let us say Camel ink or Camlin pens, I can travel by the magic of IT to www.kokuyacamlin.com. Ditto for Bril ink, admittedly not distributed very much outside of South India: www.brilindia.com will take me to virtual Bangalore. Tiny pen manufacturers are selling online. Chelpark is a rather popular manufacturer, it would seem. May we not consult its Web site?

I wish Indian FPNers the best of luck, but must we look at the date labels on ink bottles to find out what's happening with a pretty major ink supplier? The country has newspapers, and even a business press.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
