Cult Pens/diamine 'deep Dark Brown'

The Good Captain

Recommended Posts

My bottle of this great ink arrived this morning so I've only had chance to get a simple scan up. Also, I've no inks to compare it with so I'll wait for others to do that.

Water/soak test scans will follow later.

It's quite a wet ink which is great in a way as I'd planned it to go in my Pilot Custom 823 F and I was really pleased as I think it makes it up to a MF thickness, which I've just got on a couple of Sailor 1911s (but more about those later.)

So, another great ink from Cult Pens in conjunction with Diamine of course.

Enjoy!

Nice! Thanks for the speedy review.

That really does look like a great alternative as a dark sketching ink. It's nice to hear it's quite wet as that would suit my TWSBI Micarta EF very well.

Cheers,

Rob

Here are a few more scans. First the soak tests, using my usual paper from the Uni. Ten minutes soak and then about a minute in running water.

Before.

And after.

And come on, chaps: if 4001 Blue-Black doesn't have some iron gall, then what the hell is in it?!!!!

Next, on Leuchtturm paper and the small hairlines are a bit obvious at this resolution.

And finally, on my usual test paper, Rhodia 80gsm No 16 pad, with a Lamy Safari M nib dipped. I would suggest that this shows it's a bit of a wet one.

Having said that, on the papers I normally use for letters and in my notebooks, especially with a fine or drier nib, this ink is wonderful and looks likely to be the only brown I'll use and buy again.

Thanks for this - my bottle should arrive tomorrow.

And now I will have to wash some 4001 Blue-Black: never knew it was water resistant.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

Oh yes - a real classic among inks. Especially as we can get it here!

Have just ordered. Should hopefully be here Wednesday or Thursday :D

NOW I REALLY MUST STOP BUYING FOUNTAIN PEN RELATED THINGS! I have spent about 2 years worth of "hobby stuff" budget in the last couple of weeks

(to get the free shipping, I just HAD to order a new clutch pencil at the same time as the ink)

Thank you for this quick sample Captain, I have been wondering how this looked! Very nice, I may have to try some - however my favourite standards are already in my ink chest - Chocolate, Saddle Brown and MB Toffee Brown to mention a few of the batch! But.. it's Diamine, and exclusive.. and lovely.. Oh dear.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
