What Is Your Favorite Noodler's Ink Color?

Caffeinated42

Recommended Posts

I have never used any Noodler's inks - even though my current go-to pen is an Ahab. I am planning on buying some to whip up a batch of Black Swan in North African Violets - recipe here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/208811-black-swan-in-north-african-violets/ However, I want to try some other colors too, so here is my question for you - What is(are) your favorite ink(s) from Noodler's and why? Photos would be awesome if you have them.

THANKS!

Shalom!

I have to say that my favorite Noodler's color is Cactus Fruit Eel or Saguaro Wine. Frankly I can't tell those 2 inks apart. I have a bottle of the Cactus (which I like because it's lubricated), and until recently had a vial of the Saguaro wine.

I'm not partial to purples and pinks in general, but I just love the way these inks pop off a crisp white page.

Sorry the are no pictures, but my scanner is misbehaving.

The standard Noodler's Blue is by far my favorite. Honorable mentions goes to Noodler's Army Green, Nikita, and Qin Shi Huang.

I'd worry that the Noodler's North African Violet mix isn't really stable. Noodler's North African Violet threw a precipitate with both Noodler's Blue and Noodler's Midway Blue. My advice is not to mix Noodler's North African Violet, and for that matter, bring your A game to cleaning it out when switching inks.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

I have used several good inks from Noodler's, but Dark Matter is a personal favorite.

+1 for Saguaro Wine / Cactus Fruit. I always thought that they are the same color, but that Cactus Fruit is an eel lubricating ink. Of course now that I say so, I can't find a link anywhere to confirm!

In spite of being my first Noodler's ink and still my favorite and always having it inked up in a pen, I don't use it as much as I'd like cuz it has wicked showthru on most paper (excepting rhodia) and it dries veeeeery sloooooowly.

Hands down, Apache Sunset. There are several reviews on FPN that really highlight this ink - it's a beauty.

I bought an ef steel Edison nib for my Baeumont last week just so I can dedicate it to BSB. This was my first forage into noodlers, and so far I'm quite happy. It really is a bright blue!

I too love Cactus Fruit Eel. I actually compared it to Iroshizuku Yama-budo, and Cactus Fruit came up the winner. But I also really love 54th Massachusetts, so I can't pick just one favorite. :)

Bulletproof Black is my favorite, but there are so many I really love.

I have tried a few, but in terms of bottles of Noodler's I only have 54th Massachusetts.

Others I have tried samples of are:

Walnut

Bad Green Gator

I have samples of North African Violet and #41 Brown that I haven't tried yet. Although I do have the violet in my Esterbrook J right now, I really haven't had a chance to use it.

The Walnut I didn't really care for. BGG I liked much better. 54th is my fave so far though.

Apache Sunset is one of the most iconic Noodlers ink IMHO.

I really like the Turquoise; so far it is my favorite of the blue-blue-greens that have captured my inky heart.

Black - Dark Matter (with a close runner up of Heart of Darlness)

Blue - Midway Blue

Blue-Black - Air-Corp Blue Black (although it is more like a Green Black)

Red - Antietam

Green - Army Green (although I really like Gator Green as well)

Purple - Purple Heart

Pink - Ottoman Rose (although it's a very dark pink, and very close to red)

I don't have any Yellows, oranges, browns or greys, so I can't really comment.

Habanero is a favorite. http://pentulant.blogspot.com/2013/01/ink-review-noodlers-habanero_31.html

Lexington Gray is very nice. http://pentulant.blogspot.com/2013/01/ink-review-noodlers-lexington-gray.html

I don't know that I could ever have a favorite. Noodler's Black is my go to black ink.

I need to try Apache Sunset next!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
