Parker 45 Converter Problem

Earlier in the month I decided it was time for me to Try A Vintage Pen and I ordered a nice greenish NOS Parker 45 from a well-known online store. It writes well, but after two attempts to fill it with ink I have realized that the sac in the little squeezy converter is broken.

I hold the seller blameless in this: the pen was described as having been manufactured in the early 60s, and as I was also manufactured in the early 60s I have a good respect for the effects of time. However, I am in a quandry about what to do next. Do modern Parker converters fit the 45? Should I try to have my converter fixed? Should I buy a stock of Parker cartridges and resign myself to refilling them with inks of my choice? Dear Parker fans, please advise me!

Hi Wheatflower, As far as I know the '45' will take all types of Parker refills, Quink refills, slide converters and the original squeeze converters,. Also I think it will work with some of the 'hoop' squeeze bar converters, but I don't own one at the moment so cannot say.

I find the best combination for many of my Parker's is the black 'slide' converter with Quink ink from a bottle.

There is a new deluxe 'twist' converter too but I cannot say if that will fit a '45' either.

I love the Parker 45. I have used it since high school in the late 1960's, through college and ever since.

Yours is good for another fifty years (If you don't sit on it) .Continue using your ink of choice. Get a

new, Parker-compatible converter ($12). You can also use a syringe to refill your Parker cartridges.

(Ask your family pharmacist.)

The current deluxe piston convertors will work in your P45 - at least, that's what is in mine.
