A few of us who were at the last London Pen Botherers meeting were planning to meet up in the coffee bar just before going into the show. Looking forward to seeing DavidDecorator aand View from the Loft there but all are welcome.

I bought one of these tickets a couple of days ago on ebay. There seems to be quite a few for sale from a chap or chapess in Liverpool by the looks of things. Has anyone else got one?

I might as well let the cat out of the bag as to what pen I really want as opposed to my usual spottees. What I really want is a Sheaffer Pen For Men with the snorkel filler all in working order.

Well a bloke can dream can't he?

This might be a silly question but do you need to be a member of the society to go in or is it entirely open to the public for an entry fee?

At the moment my attendance is looking to be in doubt, resuming a former career in retail fit out a week today, but my agreed role is to be less demanding than the Project Manager roles I filled previously, to allow me to maintain pen repair work.

As they say, it was an offer I couldn't refuse, pen repair work will be secondary for a while though.

A couple of questions:

Is there an exhibitor list available?

I've emailed david at parker51, but figured someone here might know.

How likely is it that people will be accepting credit cards?

Not sure I want to wander around central London with too much cash in my pockets.

Do people still accept cheques?

Will there be any problem taking bags inside?

Im sure most of the dealers would prefer cash on the day, however I don't think they would refuse other methods of payments. I have had no problems taking a shoulder bag with my trade pens inside.

You may find that Ian W the OP will have a exhibitor list, why not pop him a message (in my experience he is helpful and pretty quick in his responses).

Credit cards seem to be the exception rather than the rule, but I have not had any difficulty in using cheques in the past. Truth is the pen community is not very big, so most of those in attendance are known to a good percentage of traders - and after the kind words above I would expect Ian W to vouch for my honesty ;-)

Never noticed a problem with taking bags in, although it does get quite crowded, so bags can be a nuisance.

Just booked flights down from Edinburgh for next Sunday, so I'll see you all there.

Eric

I'll bring a couple of pens for you to look at if that's ok, perhaps give me an estimate on repair or something.

See you there Eric, I thought I would be having a tab outside on my own.

Crikey there's Lsd available as well. Don't touch the stuff myself, mad enough already, but this will be one helluva show.

People who repair pens have to think "outside the box" on occasions :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
