Am I Missing Something?

~six months ago I bought a fountain pen for fun, ended up loving it (started with Lamy Safari). Felt like getting a little something new for myself and recently ordered a Kaweco Classic Sport online. I did a little research to make sure that I was buying ink cartridges that would fit the pen I was buying and ended up going with J Herbin international short cartridges.
I'm reaching out because these ink cartridges seem to be too long to fit in my Kaweco pen... maybe I'm missing something? Google searched compatibility to see if anyone else had this problem but it seems pretty unanimous that international short ink cartridges (like the J. Herbin ones I purchased) fit in the Kaweco Classic Sport. I'm wondering if either I'm somehow missing something about how the ink cartridge fits in the pen or if other people have this problem or perhaps the particular pen I received is defective?
Basically I like the pen and I like the ink.. so am I (1) going to need a different pen to use the J. Herbin cartridges / going to need new ink for the Kaweco Classic sport OR (2) am I missing something obvious about using the products that I have already purchased together.
Hoping for some guidance. Thanks!

The narrower end of the cart goes into the nib section, and is inserted 4-5mm until the nipple pierces the end of the cart.

Most pens that take the short international standard size carts can have a spare one riding piggyback. Alas the Kaweco sport is not one of those pens. It only takes one cartridge, and because of these short barrel it also won't take a normal converter. Kaweco has produced a short squeeze converter.

There are also LONG international Standard cartridges, at almost the size of a Waterman long. Pelikan has these, and perhaps some other brands. I'm not sure about Herbin. AFAIK they only make shorts sold in a little tin.

So I guess, along with Risingsun above, that there is already something inside the barrel blocking it.

Looking at your picture you definitely have the Kaweco blue cart that came with the pen still in the barrel. Shake the barrel upside down and it will come out.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
