Hi everyone!

Last week I check several websites, and a special one offer several Montblanc products with huge discount prices. For your reference website is http://www.montblancluxurypen.com

My question is very simple, anyone of my dear FPN fellow have purchased on this website?

I will deeply appreciate your comments and help.

Warmest regards :)

Bernardo

A reputable e-commerce website will have certain criteria that customers expect to see. Amongst these will be full contact details and a sensible and practical returns policy. If you don't see these, click away.

If you want to delve further (not that this is necessary) you will find that the domain is registered in China but the website is trying to look like it is based in Europe or the USA.

Jar, do you have a special piece of software to do this?

Anyway, yes it is definitely yet another web-site trying to sell counterfeit goods, or scam people out of money, or both.

Those are Mont Blancs and not Montblancs they sell. BTW 1600 Hemingway FP in stock. Which brings us to another point, suppose they can deliver their counterfeit, it would mean they now make alse copies of piston fillers. On the other hand a 149 wasn't on their site!

After some minimal research, it is a fact that they make replica MB piston fillers. It looks like they sell for around $80 or so.

Unfortunately, I think it will only get worse.

No special software needed, it's just what's known as a "whois" lookup and it identifies the owner of the domain name - in this case montblancluxurypen.com.

This is the website I use, which works with all international top-level domains (eg .com, .net, .org etc): internic.net/whois.html. For .uk domains use www.nic.uk.

I've been saying for years that the idea of "If it is a piston it won't get faked" is outdated. Price the Reform 1745, Noodlers piston fillers, several Indian piston fillers ...

I agree, jar.

It looks like they are really targeting the WE and LE pens. From what I've seen, still no replica 146s or 149s. But, WE and LE pens are in danger of being copied. To any true MB collector, there are a hundred tells, especially when you look at the nibs. ;)

Why would they bother delivering anything, once they have your money and your credit card details?

That would just eat into their profits.

Makes a big difference'

1. When they only are after ones money and don't deliver goods ( in this case bads ), there is only one victim, the one who is stupid enough to think one can buy a MB LE at a ridiculous price.

2. When they deliver the merchandise, these copies will have an impact on the market. Sure, for the experienced collector there will be no great problems to recognise a fraud, but when one starts a collection? What if someone uses parts of a copy to refurbish a scruffy Hemingway for example?

Fair point.

And if they actually do have all the stock they claim to have, then maybe they are in it for the long game, which would make your second point valid, indeed.

My suspicion of these type of sites is that they are in it for the short con. One (stupid) victim could yield enough to pay for the website - and more. Two/three/more (stupid) victims could yield an (unscrupulous) fortune. Then, once they have your details - what's next? Who knows? Identity theft? Fraud?

Just guessing, here. No actual experience of this site, other than looking at it after reading this thread.

I'd still stay well away from it.

Thanks.

Edited to add: I refer to the site mentioned in the OP

I was hoping to see a piston filler, the pics show a "captive converter"

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
