New Girl, Desperately Seeking Pink Ink

I received a notice from Goulet that Noodler's Rachmaninoff was back in stock. I don't know if any other vendor has it. It is a bit more expensive than other Noodler's ink. Goulet explained that in a recent Q&A video. Nathan had a hard time getting some key ingredients, which is why the "Russians" were out-of-stock. The ingredients became available but cost a lot more which is reflected in the ink price.

The swabs and just about every review say that Rachmaninoff is the color of Pepto-Bismal. If that isn't pink than I don't know what is.

I ordered a bottle. That was the last ink on my Grail Ink list.

And have you tried that ink yet??? We would love to see your musings.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Goulet pens recently sent me some ink samples and one of them was Diamine Hope Pink. It's a very pretty color and the ink seems to do well on all my papers including cheap notebooks!

Here's a link to a page of pinks. I have Noodler's Shah's Rose which is dark enough to be readable.

Shah Rose is very pretty.

My wife fell in love the with Pilot Petit 'clear blue' color, and we made a project out of ordering a bunch of ink samples from Goulet and comparing them. It's frustrating Pilot doesn't sell those inks in the bottle. Well, anyway, the reason I bring it up is because we ended up thinking one of the closest was the Platinum mix-free aqua, to the point where we wondered if they were actually using the same ink. I notice Platinum also makes a mix-free pink, Platinum Mix-Free Cyclamen Pink, has anyone tried it?

THe Cycamen Pink is pretty, but I like the Flame Red if you are looking for hot pink not a red. Click on the picture for a large image.

My wife was looking for a soft, bubble-gum sort of pink and it was hard to find because most of the pinks are more reddish or purplish, and the soft pinks are often not very legible on the page.

In the end the winner was Private Reserver Shell Pink. Try that if a soft pink is what you want.

I think Private Reserve Shell Pink is one of the most awful inks in all of inkdome. Sorry -- had to say it

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
