Gandalf And My First Fountain Pen

It sounds as if you have a real talent brewing. I can tell you from experience that fountain pens will help unleash that talent. I had a couple of stories rambling around in my head, and tried putting them down on my computer, and it just wasn't working. But when I started writing them down on paper (well, after all, I now had these pens, and a whole lot of different bottles of ink, because of all the enablers on here posting their reviews of all those lovely enticing colors...) it was like the floodgates opened. I'm writing poetry for the first time since college, and am now actually trying my hand at fiction... (plots haven't quite gelled yet, but the *act* of writing is kinda cathartic).

Of course, enquiring minds want to know: WHERE IS THAT STORE???

Not, of course that I can afford a Porsche Design pen any more than you could... especially not after DCSS this past weekend. (My wallet -- my poor aching *empty* wallet...! And with the school taxes due this month! :headsmack:)

Oh -- fair warning. This place is just teeming with enablers.... A scant year and a half ago I had 1 (count 'em -- one) pen, a Parker Vector with an F nib, which at the time I got it I remember thinking to myself something along the lines of, "OMG I'm paying NINE DOLLARS for a pen -- *just* for writing in my journal. Now it's more like "Wow, I scored a Parker 51 -- in PLUM -- for *only* $68 plus shipping -- SWEEEEEEEET! Wonder if it will work on the plane trip as touted.... But how in the HECK did I manage to *not* get sniped...?"

Yup, we're all a bunch of enablers. My friend enabled me to a Craig BHR ring top with a lovely looking music nib on Sunday at the show by going "You need another pen with some flex? Cause I'm buying it if you don't...." (This was *after* enabling me to an absolutely beautiful -- and working -- gold filled Morrison Overlay ringtop the day before, using the same rationale of "If you don't, I will...." ) :headsmack: Of course I may have enabled some woman into trying to buy a rocker blotter like the one I got on Ebay a while back as a "Buy it Now" from some store in the UK.... ;)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
