Nakaya 1/3 There...

I see you have 2 different types of feeds as well. I have that on 1 of mine as well.

I wondered if there was an older version of the feeds or if they used different feeds for different flow.

EDIT:

So I just checked mine and the of the 4

3 - medium/soft nibs have the feed on your Shu.

1 - BB stub has the feed you have on the Housoge.

The one on the far right is the BB & the rest are all soft/medium's just cut differently

Happiness!!!

I didn't realize how gorgeous the gold-on-black would look. I keep looking at your photos. At the back of my head, this near-constant "Hmmm..." (wondering, you know... dealing with the want.).

Beautiful pens Earthdawn!!! I am practically drooling!

I haven't had time to do a writing comparison but will return as soon as I can get it done :)

Thank you! I am so happy, starting to dream of more Nakayas and more music nibs.. dangerous road... :D

Ethernautrix it is a wonderful warm finish, I can only recommend it! :) :) :)

Just wanted to say one more thing about the nib. The feedback and general feel of it is extremely similar to the wide carpenter's pencils Dad used to have in his work belt and sharpen with a knife. Pencils like this:

Dad used to sharpen them real edgy but keeping them broad "nibbed", and my Nakaya music nib feels just like writing with one of Dad's newly sharpened carpenters pencils only with a harder core. Hope this makes sense/ is helpful to some :)

Yes, it does. It's why I love good stubs & italics.

I've never had this feel with a pen before. I can see now why one can get really hooked on stubs and italics :)

I get this subtle sensation with my Nakaya Fines, which is one of the reasons Nakaya is my favorite Favorite.

The Housoge with the Music stub towards italic cursive feels alot crisper in the "wideness" for lack of better words, and since it is alot wetter than the BB stub it also feels "larger" in writing.

In comparison the BB stub feels like if Dad had taken some of the width away also, when sharpening his carpenter's pencil making it more of a square than a flat crisp rectangle, sorry I am terrible at explaining!

Very distinctive Nakaya! I like what you chose!

I often tell my pen friends that scrimping on other things is a necessary part of the Nakaya ownership experience. :) But somehow, Nakaya always makes the wait and the sacrifice worth every pain.

How long did you wait? I ordered a Shiro Tamenuri Neo Standard with Rose gold trim in May. I got it only last week.

Congrats on your new pen, KarloT! It sounds amazing and I am a sucker for rose gold, even if I do not yet own a Nakaya with it. I do have a white Sailor with a rose gold trim and nib though!

With my Nakaya I was told 6-8 months wait but it was ready for shipping within about a week less than half a year :) I write with it constantly, scribble alot while watching detective/crime series on tv. So around me are all kinds of notes with statements like: Can you describe your relationship with the defendant? etc.. :D

Enjoy your new pen! :) :) :)

Wet is always best for me, so this is a good explanation.

Agreed! When I ordered my BB stub (unpolished Shu Naka-ai) I told them I wanted an inkflow that was as close to dripping without actually dripping that you could get :D I still think it is abit dry. I was warned that the Nakaya music nib is known for being a firehose, and yes it is on some paper (like the paper bills are printed on) but on paper like Basildon Bond or Rhodia it does not feel much wetter than my BB stub. Feels very controlled and I an write slowly and small, no problem :)

So all your gorgeous pics enabled me, you little enabler to buy a Shu unpolished. I wanted to get that flat/matte finish you have and is so beautiful. So I had John do a BB cut to a ci/stub I call a cross and then add flex. I had him change out the nib and clip to pink. I love it. My pic isn't great and I am no photographer, and even though I have 6 including a heki in a writer, this one is really a gorgeous great writer. I had it set at 8.5 and it is perfect and you all are right about the tactile warm to the touch sexy look and feel.

I think I will try to take a pic and gee you a righting sample the down stroke is juicy and very much what you would expect from a Flexible nib, the cross is very cool thin and razor like......

@sarahfar wow that's awesome !

The nib and clip look great. I am loving mine as well and glad hear you find it has that warm inviting feeling as well.

Writing sample looks great too. Line variation and nice &wet. I got mine at an 8 for flow. I figure the added flex would need it.

Curious as to what feed you got. If you can could you take a pic of the underside of the nib to show the feed?

Big congrats again!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
