Faber-Castell Loom Cartridge Convertor

ExplosiveHippo

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was going to order a Faber-Castell Loom and I was wondering if anyone knew if a standard international cartridge would work with it? One review mentioned that they couldn't fit one in there but everything I can find says the it takes international cartridge. Is there some other reason that an international cc wouldn't fit in this pen? If so, are there any other options? I know I could refill cartridges but I would really prefer to use some sort of filling mechanism.

Thanks!

Hello,

I can confirm that the international standard cartridge fits the Loom fountian pen (as it does the rest of the Faber-Castell &Graf von Faber-Castell collection). you can also fit a converter in the pen if you prefer (supplied seperatley). Not quite sure what the confusion that the review was having with their pen!

I hope this helps,

Sometimes I have had difficulty sticking convertors in pens because the convertor or the pen is shaped in a way that makes getting a good seal between the nipple and the cartridge difficult. Waterman convertors have a threaded convertor end that won't fit in some of my pens. I also have some pens where the inner diameter of the barrel results in a very tight fit for the wider part of the convertor. I don't have a Loom to confirm which problem it is.

So a standard international cartridge convertor will fit in the Loom? That's really the question I was asking. Accidently forgot "convertor" through most of the original pos. I asked on the fountainpen subreddit as well and was informed by one person that a standard convertor won't work with the Loom. Thanks!

For anyone who lands on this thread in the future: The Faber-Castell loom will not take a standard international cartridge convertor. You need to buy a proprietary convertor from Faber-Castell. I'm told this is the convertor you need:

I was confused because it doesn't list the Loom in the description but I'm told the basic and loom take the same kind of convertor. I just ordered one and I'll update this when I recieve it to let others know if it was success.

EDIT: I can confirm the cartridge converter I linked is the correct convertor for the Faber-Castell Loom.

I have a loom. It will take take Int'l short or long. It will also use a converter with an Int'l nipple. Done.

BTW: Any way you decide to use it...It is one sweet little pen. High value/price/excellent EDC!!!!!!!!!!

I use mine with a converter with an Int'l nipple, it works fine.

They sure don't save much money that way - but I suppose that they prefer selling expensive catridges; - the bottled ink usually costs much less.

I own 2 Basics and 3 Looms and I'm using in all them a Visconti converter with zero problems (leaks, and so on). Even more, Visconti makes two types (as far as I know), one is threaded. Both converters work fine.Regards.

We were just playing around with a Schmidt K5 converter and a Faber-Castell Basic yesterday.... while it technically fits, it's really tight from an internal diameter perspective within the barrel, to the point where the converter gets lodged in the barrel of the pen after you take it back apart (instead of staying friction-fit in the grip). So I can definitely see where the FC converter would make more sense. Fortunately it's the same price ($5) as the commonly available standard international converter. None of the lower-end F-C pens come with converters, at least from the US distributor.

You can tell I'm doing some research for a specific reason ;)

Is this a hint that we can expect to see FC products on your site in the near future?

Thanks for posting about your experience with the Basic.

Is there any possibility you could also report on the fit of a Schmidt K5 converter in a Faber-Castell Loom?

Brian's not in the picture. Is that because you have him in the back working?

I can now confirm that a Schmidt K5 international cartridge converter fits quite nicely in a Faber-Castell Loom fountain pen. :happyberet:

Don't FC still come with converters when you buy them?

No. I was in a specialist stationery shop in Germany a few months ago and the seller answered precisely this question. Only the higher-end pens come with the converter included (I don't remember where the cut-off was, but the Loom is definitely too low-end to qualify).

If that's the case in Germany - and the US (from what MrsGouletPens says) - then I guess it's pretty universal, given that these countries must be two of FC's biggest markets.

From what I've gathered -

The Loom will take a converter.

The Basic will not take a converter. (I have one of these).

I had the Faber-Castell BASIC with carbon fiber, and now a BASIC with Leather.

The Faber-Castell provided converter WILL fit, it was snug in the carbon fiber, but it fits fine into the leather version.

Other brands of standard international, may or may not fit depending on how thick they are, but if they are at least as thin as the one shown here (same one I'm using in the leather version):

http://static.karlblessing.com/pens/fabercastell_basic/converter.jpg

Then it will fit.

Also Faber-Castell claims that their design has not changed to make it impossible to use a converter. (email back in May 2014):

Dear Mr. Blessing,

Thank you. The Design converter 148785 will fit into the BASIC Fountain Pens. I am working with my web team to have that detail added.
I have confirmed with my colleagues in Germany, that there was a bad production batch of smaller barrels at one point. This is what's causing all of the confusion. If the pen user finds themselves with the pen that will not allow the converter and they wish to use one, we will take care of the problem.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Sincerely,

If it won't fit in your BASIC, you have a bad batch.

The converter labeled #1 in the first picture above is the same $5 one I purchased from Goulet Pens, it will not fit in my Leather BASIC, the back of the converter is too thick (and definitely didn't in the Carbon Fiber version which was more snug than the Leather one).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
