I don't drive, but was able to enjoy last year's event because an FPN member kindly offered me a lift from San Francisco. Might anyone driving north from San Francisco or the Peninsula feel able to pick me up in Duboce Triangle, or possibly a BART station agreed upon between us? (I do get around on BART.) While I'm dripping initials all over the page, TIA.

Why not create a calendar event? As of a few minutes ago, it is possible to add RSVPs to calendar events :D.

Indeed, yes. But here it is, 11:32 pm local time on Friday, and I fear I have missed the boat, or shuttle bus. Will therefore be attending the opening party for a painter friend's new show. An art afternoon either way: Doug Berg has a neighbor who is an interesting artist, as it happens, and who came to last year's event.

As we Californians say, thank you for sharing, Loren. That's what I needed to hear. You may not have any use for a 51 plum, but I trust that Todd came away with a dozen or two.

Alas, was not able to enjoy the meat chips. I did enjoy a lovely day with The Mother, so I don't feel I missed out on anything.

I brought her a pair of Irish Monkey Cellars wine glasses and a bottle of the Primitivo.

In the absence of pictures, I am perhaps too narrowly focused on the idea of Doug Berg giving out plum 51s by the bagful. With FarmBoy still in mind, is it also true that Doug was giving out Quink black by the carboy?

My plum was special. I tossed the pen in the parts box and put the 14k window pane cap on a black pen.

I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I'm not looking at a picture of the bagful of Nakayas Ricky went home with.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
