So, Did You Acquire Any New Inks At The Boston Pen Show?

So, I received an email because a new youtube video was posted showing off new pens and inks that were made available at the Boston pen show. For those of you not in the US, Las Vegas is not a actually within commuting distance to Boston, hence, I did not attend and did not acquire any of the newly announced inks or pens.

For those of you who did go... What did you acquire? Show us, please.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I hovered around Nathan Tardif's table thinking about Qin Shi Huang and an acrylic Konrad with a music nib. Ultimately I passed on the Konrad because I already bought 4 pens this month, but the Qin Shi Huang and a backup bottle of La Couleur Royale left with me. Qin Shi Huang is a very interesting ink. I knew it had a feathering problem, but I planned to dilute it. One thing that surprised me about it is how transparent it is. In the bottle it reminds me of Waterman Red. It's really a fun color, I think. The hue reminds me of Caran d'Ache Sunset.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

Slightly off topic, but at the Raleigh, NC pen show I got a bottle of Pendelton's Purpillusion and Iroshizuku Yama-guri.

A very nice and well behaved ink.

Boston simply was too far to drive for ink :D

Can't wait for the "Star Trek" transporter to come on line. Too far will no longer be a good excuse.

Okay, let's see now, Bought my first bottle of Bay State Blue, Noodler X-Feather, Noodler Golden Brown, Diamine Ancient Copper and Mont Blanc Grey (that box is sealed and may not be opened for a while).

I may sell the Noodler Golden Brown as after some thought and looking at samples again, I am not sure I want to use it.

Hah! Back when I lived about 25 miles from Boston, my friend here in Pittsburgh came up one time (her brother lived for a long time in Somerville). She and I thought that what was needed was a stable wormhole between here and there -- possibly connecting the two Rt. 28s....

Rather jealous of those who went to the show (I was in eastern MA the weekend *before* :wallbash:).

One of these days I really want to get to a pen show....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
