Dogs And Cats And Pens... Oh My!

Is she/he a Sussex Spaniel, by chance?

Well, we all thought that he was a English Cocker Spaniel with a little bit of Something Else. His temperament certainly resembled that of a Sussex - mellow, cuddly, not bouncy, very picky, a little lazy, protective, and happiest glued to me. Perhaps you have solved the riddle!

I miss him so very much more everyday.

Finally got a puppy :D Marco is a double doodle (huh?) 4.74 months old. He loves baseballs, but baseballs don't love him.

Allow me to introduce Dante, my three-year-old Chihuahua/Toy Fox Terrier mix. Though he's pictured here with a recent order from the Goulets, pens don't do much for him. His true passion is paper in all its glorious forms. His current favourites are paper towels and sheets from my G. Lalo Vergé de France tablet.

Here's another photo to put his size into perspective. Dante is a fierce defender of the homestead, but he always makes time for the finer things in life.

My danish/swedish farmdogs (the one on top has passed away). A shot taken a few years back.

Better when clicked up in large.

My dog Seneca whose photo is my profile image, has been very patient about waiting to go for a walk while I finish playing with my pens and inks. His favorite pen must be all of those I own, as he has never chewed any of them, LOL!

BTW, he's an AKC-registered Miniature Schnauzer, although some people take him for a Scottie, as they are not used to seeing Schnauzers in all black (the white and silvers and multi-colors are more common.

This is Skritchmo, my buddy for the last 11 years. I got him at a rescue shelter when he was brand new.

it looks like he is protecting my pens in this photo (about 6 years ago,) but he really just likes to sidle up to (sometimes sit on the edge of) anything I'm reading or working with.)

so many beautiful pen-loving / tolerating animals out there...

this little monkey is too curious for her own good - I've kept pens and ink out of reach, so far!

My 7.5 year old Cavalier, Winston also cares not for pens. But I suppose if he did, he'd write with a Conway Stewart while smoking his evening cigar. Oops, I keep forgetting - he wants to write, but can't. The closest he's come to a pen was getting Noodlers Bay State Cape Cod Cranberry dripped on his front paws during an unfortunate ink spill last summer. Here he is at a recent back yard bonfire, wearing his autumn ensemble.

My 1.5 year old betta fish, Charlie says pens are for sissys, however when pressed, he admitted a certain fondness for my, wait for it....wait for it....vintage Watermans.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
